Las Cruces, NM to Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico. What an adventure!!!!! The trip to Agua Prieta, Sonora was uneventful……………………..and that about it for uneventful today. (4-21-10) Joaquin Peligroso (AKA Jack Eakman) was a master at taking the Pleasure Way down the narrow Mexican highway. Semi trucks were passing us and each other on double yellow lines! Jack determined that in Mexico, a double yellow line means, Pass with caution and HURRY! On this route, I also discovered that the brakes on the passenger side have been disabled! I expect the...

Happy St Patrick’s Day! Ralph was unable to find tires in the nearby town of Hermosillo yesterday, so unfortunately he had to drive all the way to Tucson, Arizona to find what we needed. He had an extraordinary long day with lots of driving, we on the other hand had a really long day too, wondering if he was alright and battling a dust storm in the parking lot of the truck stop. The good news is, he found the tires and rim in Tucson and was able to return by 7:30 last night, the man was literally flying, and sure glad the Federales didn’t...

We got off to a great start this morning and made it to the border with no problems. I had intended to snap a few pictures as we waited in line, but there was no line! Crossing the border into Mexico is kind of like a lottery, as you enter the gates there is a set of lights on your left. This is how they pick who they will search or not, if the light flashes red you have to pull over and they go through everything, if it flashes green, you just keep on going. We got the green light this morning and we were through the border in less than a...

Today we left Alamos early and traveled north again along the same route we traveled almost two months ago. We stayed on the toll roads, for speed more than anything and landed this evening back in the little town of Santa Ana, where we had the axle trouble at the start of our Mexican adventure. We are settled in for the night and we will approach the U.S. border tomorrow morning and hopefully stay a few days at Organ Pipes Cactus National Monument to see the cactus blooms. We spent the night in Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico

It did rain all night, the locals got their wish and we got a cloudy but cool morning to pass through the border. All went well at the crossing, we had a cursory search and we were on our way to the permit station, about 17 miles down the road. Here we got our tourist cards and our vehicle permits so that we can take our car and trailer south of the "free" zone. Since there are so many Americans coming across the border to go to Puerto Penasco and points not so far south, the Mexican Government has an area or zone that you don't need to...
