Dec 29, 2012 - The Senator's Kid?

Crazy as it may seem, Jill and I have been driving across the border into Mexico now since 2005. The various regulations have changed only a little, and yet I swear no two crossing experiences have ever been remotely similar. Part of this relates to having to deal with 5 separate Mexican governmental agencies each time we cross. Once you leave the USA behind you drive a couple of miles and come to a toll booth (the first of many between here and Los Ayala). I have no idea how the toll is determined, but it varies from year to year by...

Randy says: Monday, December 3rd It was nice and calm here again this morning. We drove to the north end of town and parked by the Cotton Club and the Hotel Paradisio to have a nice long walk on the beach. Shirley was looking for beach glass as usual and Katie ran around with sticks. Tuesday, December 4th We sat out on the beach in front of Totonaka today with our chairs and enjoyed the cool breeze coming off the ocean. It was 31c/91F today. The little knat bugs finally drove us off the beach back to our site in the park. This evening we...

Today was quite an exciting day. First of all.. today is the inagaration of the new Mexican President. Nov 30, 2012 - Totonaka RV - Day 1 - San Carlos, Mexico

Aww... to be here is so fabulous. Randy says after a month of traveling, he finally feels like he is on vacation. We had a great day at the pool, getting groceries and driving around town to see what's new. We've met lots of new people and it's nice to see people that we know from past years here at Totonaka RV. Oh... yesterday when we turned off the highway onto the road that comes into San Carlos, Jazz comes to the front of the truck, all excited and meowing like crazy. Looking out the front window of the truck. This is his 4th time...

Nov 29, 2012 - Tucson to San Carlos Mexico

In the morning Randy & I went to the casino for a good breakfast. With me driving, we left the Casino parking lot at 9:35am and headed for the border. At the border, the Mexican border people just lifted the cones on the road so we could be through with our trailer. At KM 0,we paid our toll of 93 pesos and then there's the military check. We got the green light but were still stopped while the military guy asked us a few question. Just regular questions like when you go into the USA. Any firearms, where are you going etc. The topes (speed...

Nov 19, 2010 - Day 19

Day 19 - Mazatlan to San Carlos Starting Odometer: 34455 Miles traveled today: 485 We’ve realized that this is our last full day in Mexico. The maze out of Mazatlan was accomplished with an early start and a coffee at a 24-hour OXXO. Last time we were here, we wound around town in morning traffic trying to figure a way out. It did give us a chance to experience the morning hustle and bustle, but was frustrating, none-the-less. Not so this time. We’ve finally learned these things – the best time of day to travel, what to expect on weekends,...

Nov 15, 2010 - Welcome to San Carlos

On the road again from 8:30 until just after 2 up the same road as we traveled before for the most part. Novojoa wasn’t so bad this time because it is a Mexican holiday! Once we got settled, I went to the office to use free wi-fi to send email to the park in which we well stay in Tucson. I have to try to get the windshield put back in since it popped out, probably at the border with all those speed bumps or topes, that were at an angle and had me rocking and rolling. San Carlos has a landmark which can be seen from miles away and it is a...

Nov 3, 2010 - Day 3

Day 3 - Ajo to San Carlos (near Guaymas) Starting Odometer: 29715 Miles traveled today: 385 Gas: Ajo, Caborca, Santa Ana, Hermasillo Left Ajo after breakfast on the square at 7:30. What a cool, little town! An up-and-coming arts community with triple the culture. Looking forward to passing back through... Uneventful at the border...Smooth sailing through Sonoyta over a brand new highway until we hit Immigration. The process to get motorcycle permits and visas was truly a "goat rodeo." The bureaucracy was incredible - get a tourist permit,...

Apr 25, 2010 - Bahia Kino and Bobitos

Bahia Kino Viejo (Old Kino Bay), a sleepy little fishing village on the Sea of Cortez was our home for the last three nights. We found the Islandia RV Park/Motel without too much effort. Once there we discovered friendly neighbors, Jerry & Sharon and another neighbor Skip. They are full time RVers and almost full time fishermen. They were full of helpful information about the RV Park, the community and the bay. Last night we enjoyed some of Skip’s freshly caught Grouper on the grill. YUMMY! Each day we walked the beach and the village....

Jan 18, 2010 - San Carlos Mexico

Left the USA yesterday and arrived In San Carlos Mexico. Did not have a change to call everyone I wanted before we left. Sorry Larry. Very busy time getting everyone ready. We arrived with the same number of rigs we started with. That’s a successful day. Beautiful down here. We took a cruise for two hours around the bay here and our guide told us all about the Sea of Cortez and the wildlife. We also had the Dolphins play with the boat. Then we went over to the pearl factory and got a tour of how they are made. It takes 4 years to grow one...

Dec 12, 2009 - 2009/10 Mexican Travels

Thursday Our journey this year is going to be a little different. First we left home a week late, we were going to leave on November 26 but delayed until December 2. There was an offer on our house that was due to have the subjects removed by November 30 so we decided to stay the extra week and completely clear the house of all the furniture, we now have everything in storage in Vernon. The new owners will take possession of the house in January. We started our trip with a very quick visit to Victoria to spend some time with Greg, Nora and...
