Oct 15, 2008 - Hermosillo to Bahia Kino, Sonora
I had originally thought we would spend a day in Hermosillo getting aclimatized to Mexico and planning our next move. The reality was, Hermosillo is a fairly large city full of traffic. I am sure it has points of interest but we decided to head straight out of town out to the Bahia Kino which is on the Sea of Cortez in the Gulf of California. It was about an hour and a half ride but even at mid morning it was pretty hot. The scenery was still pretty flat and mostly desert but there were more farms along the way. The road was paved but...

Apr 10, 2008 - Bahia Kino
We made the long haul from Mexicali to Bahia Kino, a little village west of hermosillo. It took from 9:30 in the morning till almost night, but it was worth the drive to not get stuck in the hole that is hermosillo. We spent a total of three nights one in the ecobay hotel in old kino, and two at hotel Saro in New Kino. So far we have found that most of the rich and therefore influential people in this part of mexico are American or European, and we have had great interactions with the police and military because of this. Bahia Kino is...

Feb 26, 2008 - The Lost Week in Mexico
I know you have all been coming to our blog, anxious to get a taste of our Mexican adventure. I apologize for not updating since our first entry in San Carlos. You are probably wondering what we have been doing. Well unless you count sleeping and coughing, not much of anything. We spent a week in San Carlos, but it wasn't until the last day or so that we got out at all to see or do anything. We were just that sick. Since I got sick first, I started getting better first and was able to manage a walk on the beach with our traveling partners,...

Feb 25, 2008 - San Carlos to Bahia Kino
We thought we would have an easy moving day to Bahia Kino today and because of that got off to a late start. Jim and Ellie and we went into San Carlos to get some money from an ATM machine and then we went to a bakery that Jo had recommended. Barracuda Bob's was on the marina and seemed to be a Norte Americano hangout with great pastries and internet connections. We loaded up with goodies but they didn't have any bread so Jim suggested that we go to another bakery across town. Ruth and Rudy's is located in a residence along the highway and...

Feb 5, 2007 - Bahia Kino - Kino Bay
Left from Tucson, crossed the border at Nogales, to Kino Bay, Mexico. Saw two very large vineyards along the way. The campground was across from a nice beach which stretches maybe 7 or 8 miles. Things have been much cleaner than we expected. Kino Bay is named for a Spanish Jesuit, father Kino, who was one of the first white men in the area. Other than that, we didn't get any real information about him or his claim to fame here. On Wednesday we walked up to a chapel being built on a hill overlooking the beach. It was the Chapel of the Holy...
