Day 11 - Playa del Carmen doesn't sleep much so neither did I - sleeping beauty on the other hand had no problems with her heavy duty ear plugs and standard comatosed state! An early rise and off to xcaret - not sure what to expect we hopped aboard the bus (well after waiting half an hour - apparently it was 9.00 Mexican time not English) only to be dropped off at an office down the road where we waited with another man who checked our names off the list and said the bus would be 10 minutes (Mexican minutes!) 40 minutes later another man...Jump to full entry
Jan 20, 2010 - Xcaret
Xcaret, the fun continues! We had first heard about Xcaret when we went to a couchsurfer meeting in Mérida. One of the girls there had worked here for a time. She told us to go after 3 p.m., and pay a reduced entry fee, but still take in the evening show. We were told the same thing by a few people. Again, there is nothing like good local advise. We followed it and it was perfect. Xcaret (www.xcaret.com) is an amazing eco park, Mayan cultural park, water park etc. You can swim with dolphins, visit the zoo, the butterfly house, and more. The destination for today was the EcoPark Xcaret, but first we had to navigate the teeming streets of Cancun. We were up and on the road early (0730!) hoping to avoid the worst of the traffic. The roadways were a little bit less congested but in Cancun that's not saying much. 50 miles and 3 1/2 hours later we pulled into the back lot of the park to find that our fearless leaders request to trim the trees had not been met.
