Aug 28, 2018 - Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is located halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. This fishing village has resisted resort development and has zoning in place to restrict building height. It is a pleasant small town with just the right number of shops, restaurants, bars, and sightseeing offerings. We arrived before noon and stopped for Eggs Benedict. After we walked around the plaza we signed up at Marina Pelicanos for a glass-bottom boat tour which included snorkeling on the Great Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world....

Jan 9, 2013 - Puerto Morelos, Mexico Jan 6 - 9, 2013

It’s hard to keep track of the days, never mind the time. We haven’t worn a watch since we left Canada, and man it’s hard to keep track of time. Jan 7th we met up with the Osborne’s and their friends, in Playa del Carmen. We had lunch there with them at the Tequila Barrel, before going our own way. We did a small shopping splurge at Walmart before heading for the bus station. We hopped on the local ADO bus line, which dropped us off at the highway, just a couple of miles from the coastal town of Puerto Morelos. It cost us 26 pesos each...

Jan 5, 2013 - Puerto Morelos, Mexico Jan 1 - 5, 2013

Life in Puerto Morelos is simple, and slow. We wake up to the chirping of the birds outside our window, and sometimes the squawking of the 2 parrots who live here at Villas Claritas. They put on a continental breakfast here, and we saunter down to have coffee and treats. After breakfast we usually walk to town and back, sometimes on different routes, just to keep up the exercise. A swim in the pool, snorkel in the ocean (for Turk), read a book…..it’s all good. We have met up with Ruth & Denis quite a few times for some refreshments. Turkey...

Dec 31, 2012 - NUEVO ANOS - Puerto Morelos, Mexico Dec 26 - 31, 2012

We spent the next week sun tanning, castle building, swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, fishing, and touring the town for new Mexican cuisine to try. The past week went by way too fast for all of us, and pretty soon we were putting the kids in a taxi for the Cancun airport. They had a 20 minute cab ride, followed by a 5 hour plane ride. Apparently all went well for all of them, other than arriving in snowy Winnipeg. We miss them already, but life goes on, right? New Years Eve we met up with Ruth & Denis and their 2 Grandaughters. They made...

Dec 25, 2012 - FELIZ NAVIDAD - Puerto Morelos, Mexico Dec 19 - 25, 2012

Wow, where has the time gone? Crystal and her daughter (our Grandaughter) arrived in Puerto Morelos on Dec 20th. We were still in the Bed & Breakfast at Villas Claritas for another 2 nights. We got reacquainted with our Grandaughter, showed them around the town, and ate at traditional Mexican restaurants. Dec 21st came and went. We celebrated NOT the end of the world, but the end of an era and the start of a new era. We wanted to be close to the Mayans (just in case) lol. We moved out of our Bed & Breakfast on Dec 22nd and over into a...

Dec 18, 2012 - Puerto Morelos, Mexico

Today was a good day to wind down. We ate our breakfast in the courtyard, where they served a variety of fruit, cereals, toast, yogurt, granola & coffee. A perfect start to the day! We basically walked the town, down both streets and the beach as well. The beach is beautiful, and the water is quite warm. We had a quick sandwich by the pier for lunch with Augusto, and then kept walking. Supper was at a Uruguay restaurant, and was also superb!

Dec 17, 2012 - Puerto Morelos, Mexico

Up and at ‘em early this morning, for our 7 am flight to Mexico. The first leg of our trip was San Antonio to Mexico City, and after only an hour and a half, the second leg was Mexico City to Cancun. We are staying at a Bed & Breakfast in Puerto Morelos for 5 days, and included in that was an airport pick-up. We settled in to our Bed & Breakfast “Casa Clarita” and walked into town while it was still light out. We had a traditional Mexican supper of Nachos Grande, Quesadilla & beer, of course with Narcisse and Julio. We picked up some beer...

Apr 19, 2012 - Puerto Morelos

Travelled by bus today to Puerto Morelos, which is very close to Cancun. We are staying at a place called Kinsol. Kinsol consists of eight little houses close together, connected with winding paths and lots of trees. It reminds me of a tiny medieval village. The lobby is located in the centre and is also the owner’s cooking area. There is a bookcase of books for exchange and maps and other local information. The place is rustic but quite nice. The owners live in one of the little houses near the gate and the other seven are for rent.

Jan 6, 2010 - Our Last Days in Puerto Morelos

Jan 6th, 2010 Today was our big day to go snorkeling - it was sunny and clear, and diving /or snorkeling at the coral reef is THE thing to do in Puerto Morelos. Warner has been snorkeling and diving many times, but I had never gone before and woke up in the morning imagining everything that might go wrong - Warner would be sucked away in a rip-tide, a shark would launch itself at us from the ocean floor, a barracuda would nibble on us, a giant squid would eat us for lunch. The ancient guide whom the Alma Libre ladies had recommended,...

Jan 3, 2010 - Gray Days in Puerto Morelos Jan 3-5

Sunday January 3rd The most frequent noise we heard in our hotel room in Puerto Morelos was the crowing of a rooster who ruled the chicken coop in a neighboring building. That was rustic enough for us, and at night he merged amusingly with the blues-bands who played at Cantina Habanero down the street. We liked this town just fine, so we decided to stay put and take it easy for a while since the rest of our trip had been so action-packed. The first day, Sunday we didn’t do much except eat. We went to Pelicanos, a famous local restaurant...

Jan 1, 2010 - From Tulum to Puerto Morelos Jan 1 & 2

We woke slowly on New Year’s morning; I had slept fitfully because for some it seemed the night never ended; intermittent bongos and whoops interrupted my sleep. We knew that our hotel wouldn’t be serving coffee until 10:00 and we had errands to run so went to town for breakfast. The roads were empty early and we finally shared a cab with a local guy. We had breakfast to the sound of popping New Year's even balloons at the very crowded Don Cafeto, one of our better and less expensive meals in Tulum. Following that, we went back to our room,...
