Jun 13, 2008 - Playa del Carmen

I am happy to say that after spending all day yesterday on the beach I have a great tan now, and you can´t even see most of the bug bites. The weather was great yesterday and today. Being that we got here in a storm, we were all very happy not to have any rain while we´ve been here. I spent today at an eco-park called Xel-Ha with one of my tripmates. Xel-Ha is kind of like a natural waterpark. We were really just expecting a relaxing day on the inlet, but this turned out to be one of the best days of the trip. The park was huge and there...

Jun 11, 2008 - Playa del Carmen

We spent the whole day traveling. Since the storm was coming in we wanted to get off the island early. We took a water taxi back to Belize City where thankfully the bus picked us right up at the dock. We were on the bus for about three hours to get to the Belize-Mexico border. We had to get off the bus, get our passports stamped, and then walk our of Belize and get back on the bus. Then we were kind of in no man´s land between Belize and Mexico and the bus drove us five minutes to the Mexico border crossing where we had to take all of our...

May 23, 2008 - Playa del Carmen

Today we had our last border crossing for this trip back into Mexico. We took the speed boat back to Belize City and then got on anotherbus that took us to the border. We then had to pay our exit fee of $18 to leave Belize and then handed over our Mexican tourist cards so we could get another stamp in our passport and cross into Mexico. We then got in a coach that took us to Playa del Carmen which took about 4 hours. We checked into our next hotel which was really nice and we even had a hammock in our room! The next day we met up with Dean...

Apr 17, 2008 - PLAYA DE CARMEN

Playa De Carmen, we made it to one of our last destinations in Mexico, we are starting to feel very at home in Mexico and our food ordering has improved so much we were actually ordering fajitas now and not some other strange dish, so were feeling a bit down about ending our trip soon. Playa de Carmen has actually become a fairly touristy town, which sits right on the beautiful beach, with many americans visiting and owning apartments there. We decided although we had not been doing much, our next adventure in south american may be a...

Feb 11, 2008 - Rain in Spain I mean Playa Del Carmen

Hard to believe but we have been hit by storms since we arrived. Karen has been soaked twice and I am on to my third t-shirt today. The wind has been so bad some of the shops selling all the cack of the day have found their goods splattered all over the road. HEHE! Ended up going to see dolphins in action at a hotel resort a little down the coast. It was where K had been six years previous and there had been so much building work since then it was difficult to find the hotel she had stayed in then. After we had had our fill of the Dolphin...

Feb 10, 2008 - From Mexico City to Playa Del Carmen

Caught a plane to Cancun to meet up with ma Big Sis which I did eventually once I found out I had come into a different terminal to her! We waited behind a bunch of dumb people (guess where they were from?!) for about an hour getting our car so it was dark by the time I chauffeured Karen down to Playa del Carmen. Was easy enough after we sussed we had been given dodgy directions by one of the guys at Budget. It`s the FOURTH set of traffic lights ya bass!! We kind of knew we had come down the wrong way as the place we were in did´t have...

La Vida Buena

Jan 4, 2008 - Mexico - Yucatan Peninsula

We reluctantly made our way to the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula for our final week of our trip together. We met a really cool German couple on the bus trip there, Tobi and Julia, who we spent a lot of time with during the week. The Yucatan Peninsula is a real American cruise ship destination meaning there's little culture left however the beaches are spectacular. We spent a few days in the town of Tulum and visited the local ruins, situated on a cliff over-looking the Caribbean making for some great photos. We also spent a couple of afternoons...

Oct 11, 2007 - Playa Del Carmen - on the Mayan Riviera

Now we are on the Caribbean Coast and it is just as beautiful as the ads show - turquoise clear water that is just the right temperature! Enjoyed a morning on the beach today, but it is not as simple as going to the beach in Oz......first you have to show a ticket from your hotel, then choose a vacant cabana under (if you want) a grass umbrella, then after you settle you will be asked for some pesos and issued with a colour-coded wrist band. We were given blue - not sure whether to match my togs or to classify us as gringo tourists, fair...

May 25, 2007 - Playa Del Carmen

Woke up Early this morning and went for a run on the beach. It was good to give the old muscles a good stretch. Unfortunately the beaces here have very soft sand and you can run on the water edge, where sand is better, as it is unusual terrain. So run along the pedestrian walkway and appeared to be a tourist attraction to the fat stupid tourists - you all know which ones I am talking about??? They walk like they own the place and no common ceortousy. Anyway, second thing to notice is the Starbucks, Macdonalds, Burger King and the like...
