Jan 5, 2014 - A day with Ernestio and more!
Got up at 6:30 and did all the morning stuff, then headed off to meet up with Ernesto. Needed to get some bandages first for my feet – I had worn some blisters and raw spots from not being used to sandals. Anyway, got quite lost and wandered around for a while asking people how to get the the meeting place (a laundry). Got to the meet at 8:00 - exactly a half hour late. Met up with Ernesto, his wife (whose name I can’t remember), and their four year old daughter Isabella. We headed out of town in a heavy rain storm – but were greeted by a...Jump to full entry
Jan 4, 2014 - Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen Got to the hotel a little before 3:00 and had to wait in the lobby a bit – room wasn’t ready. Then there was some confusion about the room but it all got straightened out and I’m in room 006. I have to check out tomorrow morning then check back in with the group – and probably a roommate or two. We’ll see. After dumping off my stuff I headed to the beach – about four blocks from the hotel. A light rain but the temperate about 75 – 80 so no real issues. I had on shorts and sandals and was quite comfy. After getting my feet...Jump to full entry

Feb 6, 2013 - He came dancing across the water....
With his galleons and guns Looking for the new world In that palace in the sun.... Man am I getting lazy in my old age. It again has been about a month since I last checked in here. Amazing how much ground I can cover in a month and how many things can happen, all when I am trying my damnedest to do nothing. Well not completely nothing but not a whole lot of anything either. My trip back from Easter Island to Mexico City was a marathon, and not a fun one either, not like "wow that was fun can't wait to do that again!". It is a 5 hour flight...Jump to full entry

Aug 28, 2012 - Mini Cancun!
Playa Del Carmen is basically a smaller, nicer, cheaper version of Cancun... Not to say Cancun doesn't have it's own bonuses! But anyway it turned out to be very surreal after all the other places we've been with its paved streets, marble everywhere and loads of tourist shops FULL of Tack! We spent the first day and night going for an explore and finding cheap food with the next day spent chilling out on the beach soaking up the rays! In some ways it was the same as Cancun as most clubs had a 45-60usd cover charge in return for a free bar,...Jump to full entry
Apr 4, 2012 - Mayakoba- Spring Break 2012
Reese's first spring break! The Rosewood at Mayakoba We were on our way home from a New Years trip to Kiawah, when I got the itch for the next vacation! We decided it was time for our little one to get her passport. We spent the whole car ride home trying to figure out an easy but warm travel destination with a 7 month old. Yes, this was a challenge. We have many years ahead of us to visit a kid/family friendly hotel. This being said, I wanted to stay somewhere nice that was baby friendly. After a few week of research ( you know I loved...Jump to full entry
Jan 7, 2012 - My final days
Well beautiful Playa del Carmen...our final stop! After some searching, and a mile walk we found a parasailing kiosk. They kept asking for our hotel bracelets- I am so glad to actually have been able to experience these countries rather than planting myself in a deck chair and watching the world go by between my toes. After another short ride, reminiscent of an earlier ferry boat rode, on a jet ski we arrived at the boat for "take off". About 45 minutes latery fearlous loco buddy Rob and I were ascending to the heavens...what a thrill! This...Jump to full entry
Sep 5, 2011 - We've Arrived!!
4th-5th Sept 2011 So after a shakey start and a long 20 hour journey (as explained in cat's blog) we arrived at our very basic, very hot, (as in sweaty) hostel, Maria Sabina, Playa del Carmen- Mexico! Our initial thoughts were sleep but after walking through the hustle n bustle of the main strip we were too excited to sleep and had to go out to sample the local tequilla and have a few beers... Playa del Carmen certainly was an amazing introduction to our new traveling lifestyle :). Still feeling completely overwhelmed and a little jet...Jump to full entry
Sep 3, 2011 - Life´s a beach!
Hola Amigos! After a bit of a sleep-in to recover from our exciting adventure, we ventured down to the beach in Playa del Carmen to catch some sun and take in the sights. Running parallel to the beach is a tourista strip full of all kinds of interesting shops, bars and resturants; where we ran into some Maya in full ceremonial dress, tame new-world monkeys, and innumerable bottles of tequilla. We made our way down to the georgous beach (bathtub warm water and sand so blindingly white that it feels like you´re standing in a postcard) and...Jump to full entry
Sep 1, 2011 - ¡Hola, Playa del Carmen!
Hello Meg and Thom Fans!!!! Our journey began with a night on a bench at the Edmonton airport, and a 4:00 A.M. trip through American customs. Sleeping on airport benches was not a problem for us at all (who knew you could almost get hypothermia from 24 straight hours of air-conditioning??) but American customs was a bit of an ordeal as we were both thoroughly searched (thank you dreadlocks!) but all ended well and we made all our flights without trouble. Our layover in Houston was fun purely for the accents and moustaches; after another...Jump to full entry
