Up early this morning to look for birds. Saw several Turquoise-browed Motmots which are a very pretty bird with a strange tail. The long tail has feathers about half way down, then a large bald spot, then a group of feathers again at the tip. Sometimes they swing their tail back and forth and they look like some kind of a bird clock on the wall with the pendulum swinging below. Lovely birds. I saw a strange bird that I had never seen before in person nor in the books and I was totally unfamiliar with it. It was about the size of a pigeon....

Apr 12, 2012 - Felipe Carrillo Puerto

It has been scorching hot for the past week. Two days ago we had a rainstorm and now it is a bit cooler. We have been taking life easy at Jim and Polly’s house in Bacalar. Thank you Jim and Polly for your hospitality. It has been great and I really appreciate it. Today we went by bus to the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Hope to find some birds here. Felipe Carrillo Puerto was the governor of the Mexican state of Yucatan. He was assassinated in 1924. Strange that the town named after him is in the state of Quintana Roo and not in the...
