Sep 15, 2008 - Mexico - Cozumel

Monday September 15th At the moment we are onboard the cruise ship ‘Liberty’, sailing the Caribbean. Yesterday our boat spent the day at sea and today we docked at Cozumel in Mexico. Shayne went on a deep sea fishing trip, while Sara and I spent time ‘Downtown', checking out the many jewellery stores and tourist shops. We managed to refrain from buying anything sparkly. Even the lure of ‘tax free’, ‘duty free’, ‘special price’ for you because you are from the ship…because you are beautiful…because you have blue eyes…because you are from...

The Arnash Adventure

Apr 4, 2008 - Cozumel

Ten FANTASTIC days have already flown by here on Cozumel. We think that we have found the Northern Hemisphere version of Gove! The people, climate, beaches and lifestyle are just so like home. Within 10 minutes of arriving at our Condo, kites were spotted flying high so Simon ventured onto the beach which is a ‘very strenuous’ 30 second walk away (including getting down the stairs from our top story place). There we met a few of the locals who were so welcoming and friendly. Paco is one Cozumelenos who runs a...

Mar 31, 2008 - Cozumel/ Mexico

So, nun endlich wieder Reisen.

Feb 1, 2008 - Cruise 2 Day 6 Cozumel

We were not due to dock at Cozumel until 10 AM and we were pretty much right on time. We again started with our room service breakfast, but this time we ate inside as we were sailing south along the coast and our balcony was getting the full blast of the sun. The morning temperature here was in the low 80's and there was some humidity, but as long as you were not in the direct sun it was not too bad. After breakfast Joyce headed for the shops ashore and I went to the pool deck. I found a good spot in the shade and with a nice breeze. I was...

Dec 13, 2007 - Cozumel, MX - Island on the Mexican Caribbean

Sure doesn't look like Grand Cayman; oh yes, sub-tropical storm, Olga, caused a diversion. We are actually in Cozumel today. We docked about 7 o'clock but we had plenty of time for breakfast before debarkation for our Cozumel tour. Cozumel is Mexico's largest island situated about 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It covers an area of about 30 miles long by 8 miles wide, although much of the island is undeveloped. Cozumel was a sleepy little fishing community until back in the 1960's when Jacques Cousteau filmed a show here...

Apr 24, 2007 - Playa De Carmen, Mexico

April 24-26, 2007 After spending the past 4 days in the party city of Cancun, we made the hour journey up the road to come to the more relaxing Playa De Carmen. Playa is also along the coastal line but unlike Cancun it does not have the surrounding of hundreds of large hotels along the beach line. As you do in Mexico there is plenty of shopping (touristy stuff), fake brands and lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We decided on one of the days to try our luck on a bit of a fishing adventure, so I got a deal for Bec, Stacey and...

Mar 7, 2007 - Xel-Ha, MX - Tulum Ruins

We ventured further on south from Cancun to our new home for two nights in the parking lot at the Xel-Ha Water Park. Here's another one of those "X" words; this one is pronounced "shell-haw". We thumbed our noses as we passed Paamul and the RV park which ungraciously bumped us. We are in a nice, large, paved parking area with plenty of room for slides, awnings, chairs, etc. I also forgot to report Joe's "fix" for the door awning worked; now, we ride without that annoying rumble. Tulum Ruins is our venue for visitation. We car-pooled to the...

Mar 1, 2007 - Cozumel Mexico

Just off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula sits the island of Cozumel, draped in lush, tropical vegetation. The reefs that fringe the island beckon divers and snorkelers. The most popular shore excursions include snorkeling on famous Palancar Reef or a beginner's dive at Paraiso Reef. A land tour will provide a nice taste of Mexico -- Cozumel has done much to retain its Mexican character. Tourists also may want to take a short trip inland to visit the great pyramids and temples of the Mayas. Thursday in Cozumel, Mexico was again a hot one....

Feb 11, 2007 - Cancun to Paamul, Mexico

First off, you are not likely to find Paamul on the map. Paamul consists of the campground that we are staying in. It is a popular campground with RV'ers, especially from Canada. The caravan before us got turned away from this campground because it was double booked. Our wagon master told them we would not go away, that we would park wherever we could find space but that we would not go away. Most of us got into spaces, but about 6 are dry camping in a parking lot. Whenever someone leaves the campground one of them will take that space....

Yucatan 2007

Dec 7, 2006 - Cozumel, Mexico

Our next, and last, stop was in Cozumel. Mexico. It looked like a beautiful day. I was scheduled on a 3 stop snorkeling tour. It had been so long since I signed up for it that either I had not noticed or had forgotten that it included both snorkelers and scuba divers. Naturally, the snorkelers were second class citizens here. We were last off and first back on at each stop, so we spent an inordinate amount of time waiting for the divers. There were only 5 snorkelers and three groups of divers with 5 or six in a group. The boat crew did a...

Jespers Gap Year

Jul 3, 2006 - The Cruise (or the vacation prior to the vacation)

On Monday the 3rd of July we disembarked from Mobile, AL on a Carnival Cruise Lines trip to Cozumel, Mexico. Having never been on a cruise before, I could only expect what I have been told about cruises - that there is tons of food, lots to drink, and kids love it. Surprisingly, the cruise exceeded my expectations. 19 of us (Abby's parents; 3 Siblings with spouse's; and 9 nieces and nephews) invaded the ship. After a car parking fiasco we boarded the ship, put our stuff in our rooms and began to party. Now I am not saying that Abby's family...
