Feb 1, 2009 - Cozumel, Mexico

2/1 – 2/13 Continuing with our visit to Cozumel, we began by watching one of the best Super Bowls in a number of years. The first half we watched at the bar where they showed an American broadcast – and all the “free” drinks we could handle. The second half we watched in our room with a Spanish commentator, it was much better with talking heads that we could not understand. We did three hours of work during our stay. We agreed to sit through a time-share presentation in Playa del Carmen. Our pay included a ferry ride to Playa del Carmen and...

Jan 23, 2009 - Cozumel, Mexico

1/24 – 1/31 On January 23 we started our trip to Cozumel, Mexico. About 7:30PM we headed towards Phoenix. We left our car in an Econo Lodge parking lot, took a shuttle to the airport and hopped on an airplane at about 11:45PM. We got a little bit of sleep on the plane during the 4 hour flight to Charlotte, North Carolina. At 9:40AM we got on another flight which put us in Cozumel, Mexico at about 11:30AM. Cozumel, Mexico is the largest island in Mexico. It is about 30 miles long and 10 miles wide. The island is located about 10 miles off...

Dec 22, 2008 - We arrived!

Yesterday, being a very cold Sunday December 21, 2008, we arrived at Calgary International Airport at 9am with our flight departing to Mexico just after noon. I truly expected it to be busier than it was, being the holiday season. We were quickly through check-in and then through security. We now had two hours to wait for our departure to Cancun. While we waited in the half-full area of WestJet's departure gate, we were able to hear a woman share, with anyone who would listen or even those who were attempting to ignore, that she had been in...

Dec 10, 2008 - Cozumel

A few hurricanes have visited Cozumel since we have, so we weren’t surprised that we didn’t recognize the port area. There was room for three modern gargantua sized liners to dock. Colorful shops and restaurants clustered around the port area. It all looked freshly constructed and painted and amazingly neat and clean. Only later did we realize that the area where we used to dock near the downtown shops and restaurants was already full with two other cruise ships. The modern area where we docked would appeal to those who have been frightened...

Nov 20, 2008 - Swimming with Dolphins

Well today was a day we were looking forward to. We were going to Mexico The weather still was a little rough but ok. We were a little delayed getting to Cozumel but we were docking so that was a lot easier than tendering. By 10.30 we were on land looking for a taxi to get to out dolphin swim. We had booked it independently from the cruise people. So it was fairly easy. We needed 2 taxis to get all of us there. As soon as we arrived these guys place iguanas and birds on the kids and of course we took photos which then cost us $5 a photo,...

Oct 14, 2008 - Cozumel, Mexico

Last stop Mexico! We had our one and only shore excursion booked for Mexico so we were super excited - a catamaran tour, with snorkelling, a beach party and free beer & margaritas! The snorkelling was really cool, the water was warm with lots of pretty fish. The beach party was really good too, they had one of those water trampolines and we have both always wanted to go on one. There was also an inflatable ice berg that you could rock climb on, heaps of fun. And we got to lie on the loungers on the beach and drink free drinks! On the trip...

Sep 15, 2008 - Mexico - Cozumel

Monday September 15th At the moment we are onboard the cruise ship ‘Liberty’, sailing the Caribbean. Yesterday our boat spent the day at sea and today we docked at Cozumel in Mexico. Shayne went on a deep sea fishing trip, while Sara and I spent time ‘Downtown', checking out the many jewellery stores and tourist shops. We managed to refrain from buying anything sparkly. Even the lure of ‘tax free’, ‘duty free’, ‘special price’ for you because you are from the ship…because you are beautiful…because you have blue eyes…because you are from...

The Arnash Adventure

Apr 4, 2008 - Cozumel

Ten FANTASTIC days have already flown by here on Cozumel. We think that we have found the Northern Hemisphere version of Gove! The people, climate, beaches and lifestyle are just so like home. Within 10 minutes of arriving at our Condo, kites were spotted flying high so Simon ventured onto the beach which is a ‘very strenuous’ 30 second walk away (including getting down the stairs from our top story place). There we met a few of the locals who were so welcoming and friendly. Paco is one Cozumelenos who runs a...

Mar 31, 2008 - Cozumel/ Mexico

So, nun endlich wieder Reisen.

Feb 1, 2008 - Cruise 2 Day 6 Cozumel

We were not due to dock at Cozumel until 10 AM and we were pretty much right on time. We again started with our room service breakfast, but this time we ate inside as we were sailing south along the coast and our balcony was getting the full blast of the sun. The morning temperature here was in the low 80's and there was some humidity, but as long as you were not in the direct sun it was not too bad. After breakfast Joyce headed for the shops ashore and I went to the pool deck. I found a good spot in the shade and with a nice breeze. I was...

Dec 13, 2007 - Cozumel, MX - Island on the Mexican Caribbean

Sure doesn't look like Grand Cayman; oh yes, sub-tropical storm, Olga, caused a diversion. We are actually in Cozumel today. We docked about 7 o'clock but we had plenty of time for breakfast before debarkation for our Cozumel tour. Cozumel is Mexico's largest island situated about 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It covers an area of about 30 miles long by 8 miles wide, although much of the island is undeveloped. Cozumel was a sleepy little fishing community until back in the 1960's when Jacques Cousteau filmed a show here...

Apr 24, 2007 - Playa De Carmen, Mexico

April 24-26, 2007 After spending the past 4 days in the party city of Cancun, we made the hour journey up the road to come to the more relaxing Playa De Carmen. Playa is also along the coastal line but unlike Cancun it does not have the surrounding of hundreds of large hotels along the beach line. As you do in Mexico there is plenty of shopping (touristy stuff), fake brands and lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We decided on one of the days to try our luck on a bit of a fishing adventure, so I got a deal for Bec, Stacey and...
