Jan 6, 2010 - More Sun, More Wind

Didn't look good to dive today either. Still very choppy waters. Everyone decided to continue with the scheduled scooter trip instead of trying to make up the lost dives from yesterday. We were finally allowed into the water in the afternoon, so Terry and I did a shore dive that was very easy going and lots of fun. Spent almost an hour on that dive. A few more pictures of underwater goodies, but the camera is still being very finicky. Something about being underwater (and under pressure) makes it think the batteries aren't working. So when...

Jan 5, 2010 - Finally Sun!

Woke up to sun finally. Unfortunately the wind gusting across the island prohibited any diving today unless you were game for a severe bout of seasickness. Actually they closed the harbor, so no boats under 50 feet were allowed to go anywhere. That didn't stopped the cruise ships which inspired Stetson and I to pretend to be patrons and spend the day shopping. Downtown Cozumel is nothing but shops for the thousands of cruise ship passangers. The cries from the vendors to view their wares was endless. Walking the two miles back to our resort...

Jan 4, 2010 - First Dive

Still cloudy! Where is this so called sun we were promised? I'm cold in my wet (currently damp) suit. First dives of the trip! An AM boat ride out to Palancar Gardens. Really strong drifts and narrow reefs combined with some dive group chaos made this a less than enjoyable dive. I did get to have some fun with the new underwater case for my camera, but after a few pictures it promptly ran out of juice. Oops, guess I shoulda replaced the batteries before putting in the case. Second dive was much more enjoyable. I could reach my zen fish...

Jan 3, 2010 - Warm Cozumel?

My brother Terry invited me on a dive trip to Cozumel. Thought it would be a great way to escape the St. Louis winter. I in turn invited my fiber buddy Stetson from Portland who also enjoys diving. The flights from St. Louis to Cozumel were thankfully uneventful. On time, no worries with snow, vacant airport and a breeze through security. Waking at 4am to 8 degree weather was no picnic, but we could readily imagine the warm sun and sand to come. Unfortunately that is not what we found. Instead we had a cloudy afternoon with a chilly wind. A...

Dec 18, 2009 - uno dos tres quatro cinqo ...

ok everybody (spanish accent). today i went to mexico (everybody is excited & screaming right?). we docked in cozumel but we were just to cool for that island, so we went to the main land (what's that place called, oh right playa-like a player but playa-del carmen) then we rode in a big bus for an hour (it was like chinese water torture). then when we finally got off that bus we were in tulum (where the toleteques live or you could say lived because they are dead now). there was this beautiful jewelry store that we got to look at before we...

Dec 18, 2009 - Mehico

Cozumel, Mexico - Well actually we only saw the port of Cozumel and nothing else. We actually went to Playa del Carmen and Tulum to see the ruins. It took us a while to get there, cause we had to go on an hour long boat ride and an hour long bus ride. The ruins were very cool...they were just grey stones but in the old days (like 1000 to 1200 AC) they were really colorful. Then we got to go eat mexican food, it was so delish...then we got to go to the beach. The beach was sooo cool, I love the feel of the sand...it was almost as nice as the...

Oct 9, 2009 - Cozumel

Cozumel Mexico was the last port of our cruise. As we approached the port, we saw a sister Carnival ship already docked. The "Valor" was the name of the ship and it looked to be identical to the "Conquest" which was the ship that we were on. The market place was buzzing because of two ships being docked at the same time. We were traveling with some friends from Texas (Tom and Marcie) and we all decided we wanted to just relax on the beach and not rip and run doing the usual touristy excursions. We departed the ship, grabbed a taxi and...

HUFF STUFF

Apr 27, 2009 - W-a-i-t-i-n-g!

The day started out a regular speed! First thing Glen mowed Darin's yard. The grass would have been a foot tall very quickly if it rains all week as forecast. Secondly there was a trip to the Post Office; third, a trip to a clothing store. Then, another trip to Best Buy. We had a couple of questions about the desktop which they answered to our satisfaction. We left our GPS to be updated and the laptop to be updated and anti-virus/spy ware software added. It was supposed to be done in an hour! This was about 10:45. It turns out the laptop...

Apr 26, 2009 - Day of Rest!

We are still at Cape Camping and RV Park. It was a quiet day on the homefront. Glen repaired the two dining room chairs. The seats were separating from the backs. They are now better than new! No need for a furniture repair business. We visited with the grandchildren tonight before their bedtime! Those night time kisses and hugs are extra special. We made stops at Sam's and Target this afternoon. We watched The Amazing Race and Cold Case. We know who we want to win The Amazing Race! There are a few errands that had to wait until Monday....

Apr 25, 2009 - Computer Back Home!

We picked up the desk top computer this afternoon! It was in bad need of a clean up! But the virus and other attachments were not contagious! The speed is much improved! But I think all the things we asked to be done was not done! I have trouble organizing the photos that I download from the digital camera. The Geek Squad was supposed to make that task easier, but don't think it was done. We will re-check with them tomorrow or Monday. There was a car show scheduled in Jackson MO this morning. We drove by and there was a total of 5 cars...

Feb 25, 2009 - Day 7 (Cozumel, Mexico)

Cozumel was very nice, We went on a sail and snorkel excursion, brought the cameras this time. We boarded the Catamaran at the end of the pier and promptly headed out to our snorkelling area, which was surprisingly close to our ship. It was amazing, many colourful fish to see. We did not even barely have to swim, the current carried us along the reef for a good half hour until they called us in to set sail for the beach. The beach was nice and although the water was cool, it was refreshing. The weather was a mix of sun and cloud, but warm....

Feb 21, 2009 - Cozumel

This is the mid-point of our trip. It is fitting, I guess, that we spent it on the island of Cozumel. Linda and I rented a scooter for the day, and I found that it has been too many years since the motorcycles we owned in La Porte to be comfortable riding on a highway on only 2 wheels. The boat ride over was very rough, as the wind had blown all night. The ferry had a band on board, and they tried their best to entertain and distract the riders. Several on board got sick, and I was grateful that none were seated near us. Despite the...
