Apr 6, 2012 - Back in Bacalar, Mexico once again.
I made a mistake by not getting out of Belize before the Easter weekend. Everything is shut down. Normally there are busses every 30 minutes or so. Today there are only two. The first one leaves at 11:20 a.m. That would get us into Belize City about 2:30 p.m. Too late to catch a connecting bus to Mexico. We would have to spend the night in Belize City which I don’t want to do. Another option is to stay another night in San Ignacio. There will be more busses on Saturday. Still not as many as normal but more than today. But all the...Jump to full entry
May 18, 2011 - Sigume - Follow me
On January 1, 2011, the message from the Pastors/Preachers was Genesis 1: 1 "In the beginning God ...". This message resounded in my spirit, not only for that is was brought forward by each of the Pastors/Preachers as what the Lord had laid in their spirits; it was wonderful exhortation/encouragement to the body. The spirit was truly present and sending a message to the people of the church. The resounding message from God was if He says move forward we move foward. The resounding messages was God saying to move forward in His word, however...Jump to full entry
May 16, 2011 - The work is plentiful, but the labourers are few ...
Greetings Family and Friends, Hoping that you had a great day. The weather is hot with a cool breeze, but hot :). You know that I am sweating ... but it is good. Well, the work in plentiful, but the labourers are few. We started work early in the morning after our devotions and breakfast. There is much to be done. I prepared work for the labourers, but we did not see them, they arrived around 7 pm in the night, one by one, till there were 11.Jump to full entry
May 15, 2011 - Blessed day
Greetings Family and Friends in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. I hope that this entry finds you and your family doing well. The weather is simply awesome, hot with a nice breeze. We had a mini Church today with the four ladies and one visiting pastor from Belize, funny gentleman :). It was a great message from Ms. Beverly on Faith and walking in faith. I found this message to be interesting since I have been learning more and more about this area of the Word. We then continued to prepare for the teachers that would...Jump to full entry
May 14, 2011 - The work begins
Greetings, We woke up to the blessing of a wonderful warm sun, shining through the blinds and doorway. Got ready and sat down (4 ladies) for breakfast. We prayed, had a little Bible study and started the days work. I must also share with you that I am being blessed to be with these strong women of God. For the past 2 months or so, I have been learning more and more about Faith ...these women are wonderful women of faith and walk in faith. The Lord is showing me more and more about Faith and the importance of Faith in our lives. Ms Bev and...Jump to full entry
May 13, 2011 - All my bags are pack and we are Going ....
Greetings Family and Friends, Well, our bags are packed, we are Going. The suitcases are in the car and we are on our way to the airport. We borded with no issues. The flight was relaxing and gaved me a chance to relax and think about the next 10 days; among all the Cancun vacation travellers :). We arrived ~ 12:30 pm (CST) in Cancun; went through customs and was received by the local Pastor (Carolino). I must tell you, it is a beautiful airport, and extremely busy and orderly. Ms. Beverly and Ms Luella also joined us from Texas. Oasis...Jump to full entry
Jun 27, 2009 - Children's Music and Art
I spent the morning with Alejandra and her son Alain at a summer program of music and art for kids. It was held on the lakefront at the ejido balneario, a community beach near Casita Carolina. The leader, Jose Manuel, was very talented and kept the children entertained all morning with musical games and art activities. He had a gift for interesting all of them, the toddlers and the older more spirited boys.Jump to full entry
Jun 18, 2009 - One World Spokane
Today a couple from Spokane WA, Janice and Keith Raschko, arrived. They operate a non-profit organic community kitchen restaurant called One World that offers healthy and interesting meals. The cost? Whatever you feel is fair and respectable for what you have eaten or volunteer in exchange for a meal. You choose your own portions. The food is fresh and locally sourced as much as possible. www.oneworldspokane.org Next a couple from Australia arrived. They were Chantel and Blair and she is a clothing designer. I went to...Jump to full entry
Jun 3, 2009 - Dinner with the Anthropologists
Tonight Bob Meckling my neighbor and I were invited to a pasta dinner by three of the guests. They are anthropologists from Mexico City who are in town for the week studying local populations and their interaction with the lake. Dinner and conversation made for an interesting evening. I baked brownies for dessert.Jump to full entry
Jun 1, 2009 - Cenote Azul
I took two of the guests to Cenote Azul for a swim this morning. Ricardo is a doctor in the neurology department at the IMSS hospital in Guadalajara. Dean is travelling around Mexico from Australia. A cenote is a sinkhole in the limestone firmament of the earth. There are lots of them in Yucatan. Some cenotes require going down a ladder to reach the water level and resemble caves with stalactites and stalgmites. Cenote Azul is unique because it is at ground level and easy to enjoy. There is a restaurant on the edge of the cenote. We ordered...Jump to full entry
Feb 23, 2009 - The End of the Road
We left Xel Ha with a few regrets. The nice paved lot was not to be found again, we feared, and the time there had been very pleasant. But, there was still ground to cover. Today we headed south again, our destination Chetumal. This is the last town on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. But, there was still a side trip to make. We found that there is a large lagoon along the road called Bacalar. The water is at least as colorful as the Caribbean itself, but it is fresh water. At the town of the same name, we headed for the water. It proved...Jump to full entry
Jun 20, 2008 - Belize to Mexico - a travel day!
What a contrasting day today compared to yesterday! Finally up to date with the blog, sorry for the delays everyone but we have had no internet access for a good few days! I won’t bore you all with today’s designated travel day but suffice to say it was 1) long 2) hot and 3) rough! But hey, we made it over the border from Belize to Mexico and we arrived around 4pm at Bacalar where we are staying at a lovely hotel on the side of the lake. We had a nice refreshing swim this afternoon and a nice meal this evening as a group. I can’t believe we...Jump to full entry
