I had spotted a town called Atlixco on the map, pretty much in line with our route around Mexico City, so we decided to head there. ... As it turned out we ended up tackling the traffic anyway as the route to Atlixco took us through the city until we hit the freeway construction and got totally lost along the way due to a maze of detours. ... Back on the road this morning, we decided to go by ourselves, as everyone was grumpy about the bad directions, and we felt we had a better than even change to find our way without poor leadership. As we got close to camp in Cholula, we missed a turn, and got off at the next exit. ... It is actually a three day weekend and now on Monday, the last day, people head back again to Mexico City and for that matter my destination Puebla which, to my surprise, has three million inhabitants. ... We turn into Puebla’s vast bus station at 9 pm, a mere half hour late because of traffic jams and I join the small queue for the authorised taxis. ... For the old colonial city that Puebla is, reputed to have 365 churches and monastries, one for each day of the year, the street plan and street naming is remarkably austere. ... Odd numbered streets go to the South and the West, 3 ,5 ,7… Sur and 3 ,5 ,7… Poniente, with the notable exception of the Boulevard Heroes del 5 de Mayo, and for good reason, since it was here in Puebla that the said Heroes made their stand. ...
