The next few days were spent exploring Oaxaca and it's many different mercados (markets) though all were fairly close to each other. ... OK, so maybe we did a bit more walking through the markets, prior to our attempts to find Oaxaca's gay bar(s). ... Actually not much of a search really considering that Oaxaca is famous for it's chocolate and it's recipes, some ancient and many deliciously modern, using their famous chocolate-based moles (as in mole-ess) or pastes. ... Time of departure: 0930 Time of return: 1500 Hate to be redundant but the weather was once again absolutely perfect!
Today was scheduled as a free day. Not us!! We headed back into downtown Oaxaca with a few other couples for some more shopping and wandering around. ... After making a couple of more small purchases we headed out to lunch on the Zocalo.

Mar 12, 2009 - Shop till you drop

Each stop also afforded us an opportunity to make a contribution to the local economy! The only thing that saved us from making any really big purchases is the fact that we live in a little under 400 square feet and don’t have room! We’ve decided that when we next purchase a home without wheels we will make a trip back to Oaxaca. ... After a lunch stop at a family owned restaurant along the side of the road, we made the drive back into downtown Oaxaca. ... We were than given a couple of hours to wonder around Oaxaca prior to getting together for a dinner ‘on Fantasy’. ...

Time of departure: 0900!! Yes, we got to sleep in! Time of return: around 1800 Weather - absolutely delightful, 80’s with a nice breeze
We actually got the opportunity to try to sleep in today. I’d done my research - I’m sure that doesn’t surprise most of you - and was really looking forward to our time in and around Oaxaca. ... As with previous areas we’ve visited, Oaxaca has a series of ruins that require a visit. ... The difference here is that Monte Alban is located on top of a mountain and is believed to have been used as a fortification.

Mar 7, 2009 - Mexico: Teotihuacan and Oaxaca City

Before leaving Mexico City we headed to the ancient city of Teotihuacan around an hour away. Not many tourists there but lots of school kids which were much better behaved than the English ones! We are now in Oaxaca City, having survived our first long distance bus in first class comfort ;) Finding a hostel provided not so easy but after three attempts we found one with a dorm. ... Despite last night`s first slightly negative impressions of Bangkok crossed with we`re not quite sure what, today`s meanderings have shown a more Colonial side of Oaxaca although wouldn't recommend spending too long here! Planning to spend this afternoon checking out the market square with 20 peso (one quid) cocktails, before heading to Zipilite beach tomorrow. ...
