Jan 16, 2017 - Update

Wow, its way past time to have a second posting on our travel journal. Tomorrow Mike will be celebrating his 74th birthday, or maybe trying to hide it! We had a super time over Xmas and New Year with the company of Simon and Mercy coming in from Calgary and David & Christine with a direct flight from Gatwick, England to Puerto Vallarta, new service this year. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny for the whole time. We kept the fact that Simon and Mercy would be here from Liz’s brother and he was so surprised when he saw them in the...

Feb 5, 2016 - Lo de Marcos

Oaxaca to Lo de Marcos Oaxaca to Lo de Marcos is about 1250 km, so it's a fairly easy 3-day drive except for the last few hundred kilometres where we turn west toward the coast. The quota (toll road) from Oaxaca through Puebla to Guadalajara is easy but costly in terms of the tools. We spent over $100 CAD on tolls and we are the same rate as a car or truck. Those poor folks with a fifth wheel, or driving a big Class "A" would spend at least three times that!. I will not go into any details about our drive as our main intention was to get to...

Feb 2, 2016 - Still in Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

We’ve been here over 50 days in Lo de Marcos, time just flies by so fast it’s scary. Now we are having conversations about heading north. Weather has been slightly cooler through January, very nice for sleeping and much less humidity during the days. Mike has finished cleaning and polishing the trailer, now the truck needs the same treatment, maybe. On January 17 we celebrated Mike’s birthday with a little dinner party and gathering round the fire afterward. A good time was had. Usual stuff’s been going on; music nights, trying out a couple...

Jan 9, 2016 - Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

Just to bring you up to date; after a few days in Mazatlan, we arrived in Lo de Marcos about the 2nd week of December, and were very pleased to be given the same spot as last year. Hope you enjoy all the flora and fauna photos. This really is the tropics, hot weather, warm ocean, overgrown vegetation, beautiful flowers changing all the time, strange animals and the birds are spectacular. Had more work done on the trailer. This time we had all the faded and peeling decals removed and then painted back on. The Mexican workers have made it...

Life goes on here at The La Parota RV Park, in Lo de Marcos. At New Year’s Eve we celebrated at the park restaurant (Tomatina) and managed to stay awake till the midnight hour with sparklers on the beach. Lots going on at our park, and the ones next door, music evenings, crib tournaments, Spanish lessons, exercise groups, etc., and of course sitting on the beach with occasional dips in the ocean, watching the whales spouting and breaching miles out to sea. Mike plays golf at the local 9 holer, (Field Of Dreams) and did get in one game at...

Dec 27, 2014 - Xmas in Lo de Marcos

Exciting life continues in Lo de Marcos at the La Parota RV Park. We all trooped down to the village to watch the Santa Claus parade, see the kids get their presents and of course join in the carol singing. The parade and gift giving is mostly all organized by various gringo charitable organizations. A wedding was held at our park, put on by Tomatina’s restaurant. The actual ceremony was held on the beach, and apart from the tide coming in, the fishermen ‘landing’ their boats nearby (they come close to the beach, rev their motors, literally...

Dec 10, 2014 - Settled in Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

Arrived in San Carlos, November 19th with no problems on the journey down, except at the border where one of our convoy tried to go through the wrong gate and got stuck. They had to disconnect their tow vehicle and back up the RV to get through, needless to say it caused a traffic hold up at an international border for twenty minutes or so, hey ho. In SC we visited with friends, managed a stop at the Soggy Peso bar and game of golf for Mike. Coincidentally while in San Carlos we heard that Mike Nichols had died, the director of the movie...

Mar 9, 2012 - Final days in Lo de Marcos

We’ve been in Lo de Marcos now for more than two months and people are starting to head north. The last of the La Parota RV park crowd are off for a final night out on Saturday to the Blue Pig in San Pancho where they play blues music and serve copious amounts of ribs. Here in the La Parota RV Park, we have a line of palm trees across the front of the park next to the beach. Most of the trees are loaded with coconuts, which occasionally drop to the ground with a noisy thud. Luckily nobody has been hurt by the dropping bombs. The owner,...

Feb 10, 2012 - Life in Lo de Marcos

Life here in Lo de Marcos is very interesting with loads of other snowbirds to trade stories and spend time with. The beach is spectacular, real good waves some days for body boarding, warm water and about 1½ kilometers of sand to walk. The RV Park has a great area on top of the banos for Happy Hours and other events. [see www.laparotarv.com] Strange as it may seem, we do keep busy here, things do go wrong you know. Over the weeks we have dealt with hot water heaters that won’t heat, sewer tank valves that won’t shut, gas stoves that won’t...

Jan 13, 2012 - Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

Hello from Lo de Marcos. New Years Eve we spent with some fellow snow birds at the San Carlos home of Charles and Lindsey, who moved from Vancouver Island in 2010. Had a great evening, played some games and even made it through to 1 am. The trip down from San Carlos with Bruce and Terri was uneventful, which is always good. Stopped over near Los Mochis and then again at Mazatlan. We ate at a resturant in Mazatlan called The Fat Fish, very nice, some of us ate great quantities of ribs. The RV park, La Parota, here in Lo de Marcos is over...

Mar 1, 2010 - Hasta Proximo Ano (until next year)

Today is our last day in Lo de Marcos. We packed and packed, and had lots of good friends stop by to wish us safe travels. It is always so bittersweet to leave this wonderful place. I hate to leave my friends, old favorites and newly acquired, but I am also looking forward to new adventures on the road. We had a little get together at our old RV Park, Pequeno Paraiso, to thank all of our class instructors for the winter, Mabel and Heather for line dancing and yoga and Greti for her wonderful experience and guidance with painting. What a...

Feb 24, 2010 - Winding Down in Lo de Marcos

The weather has changed back to sunshine, but we keep hearing of horrendous weather in the States, particularly in the east. We are scheduled to leave here, Lo de Marcos, next Tuesday. We are winding down our fun on the beach, but looking forward to future adventures. We have even begun a slow start to packing up all our gear. We are not alone though, the park is emptying out quickly, today 2 rigs left and tomorrow 4 more will leave. This week is all about finishing up any uncompleted projects, I’ve been painting and Ralph has been carving....
