Mar 9, 2012 - Final days in Lo de Marcos

We’ve been in Lo de Marcos now for more than two months and people are starting to head north. The last of the La Parota RV park crowd are off for a final night out on Saturday to the Blue Pig in San Pancho where they play blues music and serve copious amounts of ribs. Here in the La Parota RV Park, we have a line of palm trees across the front of the park next to the beach. Most of the trees are loaded with coconuts, which occasionally drop to the ground with a noisy thud. Luckily nobody has been hurt by the dropping bombs. The owner,...

Feb 10, 2012 - Life in Lo de Marcos

Life here in Lo de Marcos is very interesting with loads of other snowbirds to trade stories and spend time with. The beach is spectacular, real good waves some days for body boarding, warm water and about 1½ kilometers of sand to walk. The RV Park has a great area on top of the banos for Happy Hours and other events. [see www.laparotarv.com] Strange as it may seem, we do keep busy here, things do go wrong you know. Over the weeks we have dealt with hot water heaters that won’t heat, sewer tank valves that won’t shut, gas stoves that won’t...

Jan 13, 2012 - Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

Hello from Lo de Marcos. New Years Eve we spent with some fellow snow birds at the San Carlos home of Charles and Lindsey, who moved from Vancouver Island in 2010. Had a great evening, played some games and even made it through to 1 am. The trip down from San Carlos with Bruce and Terri was uneventful, which is always good. Stopped over near Los Mochis and then again at Mazatlan. We ate at a resturant in Mazatlan called The Fat Fish, very nice, some of us ate great quantities of ribs. The RV park, La Parota, here in Lo de Marcos is over...

Mar 1, 2010 - Hasta Proximo Ano (until next year)

Today is our last day in Lo de Marcos. We packed and packed, and had lots of good friends stop by to wish us safe travels. It is always so bittersweet to leave this wonderful place. I hate to leave my friends, old favorites and newly acquired, but I am also looking forward to new adventures on the road. We had a little get together at our old RV Park, Pequeno Paraiso, to thank all of our class instructors for the winter, Mabel and Heather for line dancing and yoga and Greti for her wonderful experience and guidance with painting. What a...

Feb 24, 2010 - Winding Down in Lo de Marcos

The weather has changed back to sunshine, but we keep hearing of horrendous weather in the States, particularly in the east. We are scheduled to leave here, Lo de Marcos, next Tuesday. We are winding down our fun on the beach, but looking forward to future adventures. We have even begun a slow start to packing up all our gear. We are not alone though, the park is emptying out quickly, today 2 rigs left and tomorrow 4 more will leave. This week is all about finishing up any uncompleted projects, I’ve been painting and Ralph has been carving....

Feb 21, 2010 - Painting and Carving

The rain has stopped….for now, more predicted in the future. I’ve been busy doing some painting, finally, and Ralph is doing some more carving. Just hanging out here for our last couple of weeks and making plans for our journey back north and deciding whether to go east or west when we arrive at the border. So far we still plan our extended trip, so if all goes well, we will have some new and interesting sights to talk about.

Feb 17, 2010 - Rain

They were right this time, the rain came last night and it still hasn’t stopped late this afternoon. The RV Park is awash and we may need a boat to make the road if this keeps up. Good news, Peter’s passport arrived in Puerto Vallarta yesterday, so Ralph took him downtown today to pick it up, a real relief for both Heather and Peter. Ralph also took Eric, our neighbor here in the park, to the airport, he just got word that his mother passed away and needed to get to California for the funeral. On a happy note, I’ll be watching his dog...

Feb 15, 2010 - So Long Bob and Sue

Today Bob and Sue had to head home, we were going to go into Puerto Vallarta to do some touring, but Sue didn’t feel up to it, so we stayed in town and watched more of the Olympics. We have been thoroughly enjoying the events, but it’s hard to stay indoors with all this beautiful sunshine. There is more bad weather predicted in the next few days, maybe it will mean a chance to watch more games.

Feb 14, 2010 - A Week in Lo de Marcos

I have been playing and not writing this week, so I’ll try and get caught up. Wednesday we all trouped over to a little house in town to take a look. I have been asking around about rental houses, thinking we might be able to save a few dollars next year (if we come back) by coming down without the RV and just driving the truck. We would save on fuel, on road tolls and certainly time. It was just a thought, but I mentioned it to Melanie, my friend here who owns the dog kennel, and she gave me the keys to a delightful little house that she...

Feb 9, 2010 - Lo de Marcos!

Our drive from Playa Amor, near San Blas, to our current location here at Lo de Marcos was a whopping total of 54 miles and took us over 3 hours. It was the hardest and worse stretch of road we have encountered, or will for that matter, as we have decided to make this "our home" for the next few weeks, before turning around and heading back north! Lo de Marcos is a quiet, clean, beach town about 30 miles north of Puerto Vallarta and just south of Rincon de Guayabitos. There are 5 or so small RV parks, mostly situated right on the beautiful...

Feb 8, 2010 - Compostela

Today we decided to go for a little drive; we took off going north and ended up going into the mountains to a town called Compostela. I don’t know much history of the town, but it has lots of leather workers and saddle makers, there are lots of ranches in the area. There were lots of high end cowboy boots made from crocodile and ostrich, also leather sandals and tons of other goods. We wandered around the downtown area, visited the town square and were invited into a “luncheria” with such enthusiasm we couldn’t say no. We had a great meal...

Feb 7, 2010 - Bob and Sue's Visit

We picked up Ralph’s brother Bob and his significant other, Sue, at the airport in Puerto Vallarta yesterday. They will be spending 10 days with us, and we are hoping the weather holds at least as long as their stay. We arrived back in Lo de Marcos in the late afternoon, so they had time to unpack in to their little 2 bedroom bungalow in our trailer park. They have a nice big veranda and a spacious living area; I think they will be comfortable there. They were unpacked and ready to go just in time to walk in to town for the big benefit of...
