Feb 25, 2010 - Playa Chacala; Punta de Mita

Many of the roads heading west off Mexico highway 200 lead to beautiful bays and beaches. Playa Chacala, to our north, is located about 6 miles off the main highway and is very representative of a typical Mexican beach town, though some tourist-type condo development is in place. The streets are dirt and rutted and packed with vendor stands and palapa-style restaurants line the beautiful beach, which was well attended on the Sunday we visited! Punta de Mita, to our south, occupies the northern tip of Bahia de Banderas, a beautiful large bay...

Dec 8, 2008 - Chacala

Since our last update, we have made a few stops. We left Mazatlan harbor just in front of an outgoing cruise ship which seemed to cause anxiety to the port authorities as they were rapidly saying something to us on the VHF radio. We did clear the harbor without issue in the late afternoon enabling us to see another wonderful sunset. We put up the sails and started enjoying a great sail with following winds of 10-12 knots southeast to Isla Isabela. Towards the end of Cindy’s shift at midnight the wind finally died so we took down the sails...
