Feb 9, 2013 - February 9
February 9th, only five days 'til Valentines Day. For all you lovely people out there, Happy Valentine's Day. I know I promised you a more exciting week and, all in all, it was. Maybe not for you, but for us. Woke up Sunday morning to find out that we had no water. This is the second time it's happened since we've been here. Apparently, the water tank doesn't fill fast enough. By mid afternoon we got enough water to have a shower, just barely. Monday morning we still didn't have water so decided to go to the beach. There's lots of water...

Feb 1, 2013 - Groundhog Day
Here we are again. This week was going to be an exciting blog. I was going to tell you all about our visit with Bob and Muriel at the Marina on Tuesday and our visit to the zoo on Thursday. That would have been exciting, right? Sunday we had a great day. We met Roy and Carol at the bus stop by Cardenas Park and headed to the Sunday market in Buserias. After a leisurly walk through the market, Nell bought sun hat, and a quicker walk through the regular merchant's tents in town, we had a very nice lunch before heading back to PV. Monday was...

Jan 30, 2013 - Three For The Road
A Headache I’m sure I’ve written of it before, but taking supplies to the local Los Ayala schools is an annual event for us. Here in town they have the “Jardin de Los Ninos” or kindergarten about 5 blocks away from Los Delfines, and then the Escuela Primaria (grades 1-6) which is just a block away. You may recall that last year, when Jenni was in attendance, we were invited (along with a number of other North American “dignitaries”) to a program the kindergartners put on. With the program, and our later visit to drop off last year’s...

Another week has passed and life in paradise continues to be great. Only made it to the beach twice this week but could have gone more often. Sunday, for the first time since we've been coming down, we saw an accident. Well, we never actually saw the accident but, we saw the aftermath. In PV, and I'm sure other Mexican cities, buses often, (always), turn left from the right hand lane without signalling. For other drivers who may not know this, or perhaps forget, the results can be less than ideal, as the driver of this car found out. He was...

Jan 24, 2013 - Puerto Vallarta Jan 23 - 24, 2013
Puerto Vallarta is a fun town! We have spent the past couple of days walking everywhere. And….we do walk for beer. Every day we stopped in at the Circle Bar, at the Malecon Market. Jorje, owner and bartender, was very friendly, and quick to serve. We met so many people at this bar. It’s like going to a Canadian reunion. The weather is still hot, hot, hot.

Jan 22, 2013 - Puerto Vallarta Jan 19 - 22, 2013
Our time in La Crucecita was up. We tried to think of where we could go next, and thought of one of our favourites….Puerto Vallarta. So….we hopped on a plane to Mexico City, and then sat in their airport for 4 hours waiting for a connecting flight to Puerto Vallarta. It’s last minute to a popular destination, but we found a hotel room in the Romantic Zone, called Encino Hotel. We were a little skeptical, but as it turned out, we really like it. It is true Mexican décor. I still wasn’t feeling up to par, but Turkey was just fine. We checked...

Jan 22, 2013 - Courage
As I write this, the high temp back in Stevens Point is something in the range of -2, so I won’t overdo it on weather complaints. I would point out however that we had cloudy days from last Saturday through Wednesday, along with plenty of breeze and extraordinarily high waves. I told you about the impending visit of Molly and Layla, so the relatively lousy weather could have found a better time to make an appearance. The good news is that 3 1/2 year olds are totally oblivious to conditions that send adults scampering for sweat shirts. It...

Jan 16, 2013 - The 19th already
Because I received numerous complaints, (okay, one complaint), about the blog being late last week, I have taken great pains to make sure it is on time this week. The week started out cool and windy with a few days that were definitely not beach days followed by a couple that were iffy. Yesterday, Friday was a gorgeous day and we managed to spend four hours lolling in the sun. I have to say, Nell didn't enjoy it quite as much as I did because she has come down with a cold and is not enjoying much of anything right now. Hopefully she'll get...

Jan 13, 2013 - End of the second week
Not really a lot to tell you this week. Sunday we went to the Mojoneres market with Robert and Bonnie. We weren't really looking for anything so we weren't disappointed when we didn't find it, (or did, whichever is more proper). We did have a good lunch so all was not lost. Monday, Friday and Saturday were beach days. I have now just about reached maximum tan. Nell, of course, will keep tanning until she can't be distinguished from a native. There's a bit of a soap opera going on in the neighborhood. Across the street from us there is a...

Jan 11, 2013 - Caught Up In The Good Life
As I write this, it is January 11 and we have been in Los Ayala for all of 11 days. Here’s a quick update on what’s been happening and then I’ll shut up - I promise - for awhile. We arrived on New Year’s Eve. As I’m sure you’ve gathered, we are not big NYE folks. Of course many, many other folks are. So despite the fact that I only wanted carry outs, all of our favorite restaurants were preparing for big crowds with special menus. Happily I found a rotisserie chicken place just down the street here in Los Ayala. I got a whole chicken,...

Jan 4, 2013 - First Week
One thing we have to realize when we come down here is that we don't have to do everything in the first week. We want to go here and there, see an do this and that. We're here for three months, we have to pace ourselves. New Year's day was WET. It started raining sometime after midnight and rained all through the night and all day. We finally got fed up with being cooped up and went for a walk. We took a few pictures to show just how wet it was. I don't think I've ever seen the Malecon with nobody on it before. Check out the statue of...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=l_BBHABEJC0 Raining like a fool. Started sometime after midnight. The video is 28 seconds of a half hour display, shot from the roof of our apartment building. The nightclub down on the next corner was still hopping at 8:00 A.M. See you next week. Feliz año nuevo 2013
