Dec 6, 2011 - Guadalajara,Mexico

Aug 23, 2011 - Guadalajara
I am off home today. I take the bus from Guadalajara to Dallas at 5:30pm and get there tomorrow about 6:30 pm. Then I wait and take the bus at 6:30 am to Tulsa, getting in at approximately 1:00 pm. I really like Mexico, but I haven't been feeling all that well so I have been spending most of my time in the hotel room. Plus, my mom enticed me home with the prospect of moving. I love moving. It is like traveling only more permanent. I am looking forward to moving boxes around and deciding where to put things. Anyway, I really like...

Jan 1, 2011 - Feliz Navidad & Nuevo Anos
December 24th It is December 24th and I float on my back in a swimming pool over bright yellow tiles that say 'CASA SENORINA BON VIVANT'. I have checked into room #5 for two days. December 22nd I arrived in Barra de Navidad after the bus failed to drop me off in Melaque. The bus driver said 'few minutes back, take taxi', gosh thanks amigo. Instead I stay in Barra and take a cab to the 'Jalisco Hotel' and check into room #12. The accommodation is not only basic but what I would call 'sticky'. I daresay the Downtown Vancouver East Side has...

Dec 11, 2010 - Puerto Vallarta
It's been so long since I wrote in thins journal...got a bit lazy but in reality until I left GDL was doing nothing but studying. that all stopped once I got to Puerto Vallarta! I LOVE PUERTO VALLARTA!!! ME ENCANTA!!!!!! Though this is a tourist city and thus intended to avoid it's not that far detached from GDL I'm happy to report. The mexican culture is still very much alive here and you can still walk cobble streets and marvel at the obras de arte and beautuful colonial architecture. My first day: opened the door to my hostel room...

Nov 13, 2010 - Out Again!!!
I'm writing at 4:15Am after another night out. This time nearly all the extranjeros from school were there. We lost a few but gained an African girl who is gorgeous, a crazy Australian surfer who is TROUBLE, a Californian finally (woohoo) from Santa Barbara, a girl from England who is SOoo cool!! A texan and a German. My french friend had a date and couldn't make it which at first bummed me out because he has been my party buddy. Turns out though that the German was pretty damn fun and could hold it together pretty late too. By 4:00 am it...

Nov 9, 2010 - Crudo vs Cruda
So I've been going into vitamin stores all over the GDL center looking for a cure or prevention for un crudo which i thought was hangover. It's not. the word for hangover is cruda. Crudo means raw or uncooked!! hahahahah!! No wonder they looked at me so strange. And to think that I was so completely annoyed. How could you not have a hangover cure??? Don't you people get hangovers??? why are you looking at me like i'm crazy? LOL!!!! So I guess i've been walking into vitamin stores asking for something raw? hahahahha!!! I've learned that...

Oct 29, 2010 - Dia De Los Muertos - pics
These are just a few of my new friends who just appeared in the streets overnight. They'll be hanging out with us through Tuesday of Next week. There are many more but it takes time getting to know them all. More pics to come. Of course the Dr. is my favorite. it may not be visible in the picture but he was positioned right in front of the pharmacy, fitting i'd say. They sell all kinds of chocolates and thick caramel dip (so good!) candy and pastries for El Dia De Los Muertos in the city center amongst my new friends. There is just so much...

Oct 29, 2010 - Guadalajara
So, last day in Guadalajara. I'm kinda looking forward to leave this city.. After all the small towns at the seaside I don't feel that comfortable here. But it was a nice opportunity to study, practice guitar and consume some culture, because it is Fiesta de octubre at the moment. For example there was a free Tango show ('Todo Tango') on Wednesday which I really enjoyed :) --- Letzter Tag in Guadalajar.. Endlich geht es weiter, und endlich/leider schon zu unserem Zwischenziel Culiacan, wo wir ein Monat im Krankenhaus verbringen werden.....

Oct 27, 2010 - Injured..ambulance and paramedics arrive
Here's one for you: Who lives in California (where there are so few cactus plants) and travels to Mexico (where there are even fewer) and manages to get injured by probably the only plant growing within the actual city. :) Well to make a long story short I was attacked by a viscous plant growing in the median of one the busiest centers of Guadalajara. When your a pedestrian here, you don't take shortcuts. i know this now. I had one choice when I got to the median, let the plant eat me, or get hit by an oncoming bus, car, taxi, calandria,...

Oct 16, 2010 - Cuban club
We bar hopped our way to the Cuban club last night and as usual had a blast. The Dj's here are great everywhere you go. But, you don't see any dancing unless your at the Cuban club which we finally made it to around midnight or 1 am. Man, the Cubans can dance and they do it all night long till the sun comes up. Salsa salsa salsa! Earlier in the the night there was an actual indian circle dance in the city center. They were actually teaching people the native indian dance. I tried to join because it was so impressive but not at all easy to...

Oct 14, 2010 - Tlaquepaque trip
I write this two glasses of wine in, a shot of tequila, and a very large shot of vodka. After class we gringos of all nations rolled into Tlaquepaque for a nice dinner and some relaxation after a full weeks worth of total immersion. Not as exhausting as last week but never the less very tiring. I am shocked by how much spanish I'm able to speak though grammatically incorrect for the most part, still comprehendible to the native speakers here. For that I'm proud. :) Tlaquepaque is a lot like Tequila in that it's stunningly beautiful!! We had...
