Apr 11, 2011 - Acapulco
It’s Monday it must be Acapulco! another very hot day to wander around in. We left the ship early to try and beat the heat but it didn’t work - 88F this morning. We looked around Old Acapulco, bought some postcards and did some internet stuff. We went back to the ship to cool off and have some lunch then joined our tour bus to see the divers and highlights of Acapulco. The divers were amazing of course. Those poor guys, they jump into the water on one side then swim over and climb up the cliff on the other side to get ready to jump. No...

Feb 4, 2011 - Acapulco still
Packed everything this morning and played cards with Jerry and Lynn (Rick's Dad & Stepmom) until time to leave for the airport. We got to the airport and the Continental guy informed us our flight had been cancelled - turns out Houston got an ice storm and closed the airport!! Next flight we can get on is Monday - today is Friday. With all the traveling we have done it is hard to believe this is the first time this has happened to us. So.... we were going to take a cab back to the Mayan Palace but they wanted to charge us quite a bit more...

Feb 3, 2011 - Acapulco
We had a fantastic month in Acapulco - mid 80s and blue skies every day. We found the local taco lady early in the trip and had 50 cent tacos a few times every week for breakfast or lunch. She had a good variety - chicken mole (mole is an amazing Mexican sauce that is time consuming to make), chicken and potatoes, eggs and beef, eggs and chorizo, vegetable and some kind of pepper mixture - and all were delicious. We also found the lady that delivers tamales on Saturdays - the Chepile (some type of leaf with cheese) was really good. Our 2nd...

Jan 16, 2011 - Acapulco, Mexico
In spite of being ill, we made the trip to Acapulco today as planned. I am feeling lousy which is a big improvement over how I felt for the past three days. My cold is somewhat better but now I have a bad cough. Laura is still ill also but decided that she wanted to make the trip. First the long bus ride into the city. I say “into the city” but it is city all the way. Actually it is small towns and cities one after the other with nothing in between. If you were new here, you could drive one hour out of the city without realising that you...

Jan 7, 2011 - Fly to Acapulco
After a very early start - got up at 4am - we had problem free flights and arrived in Acapulco a little early. We had time for a late breakfast/early lunch at the stop over in Houston. We could feel the heat as soon as we walked off the plane in Acapulco - it felt great! Our room wasn't ready at the resort so we checked in, changed to shorts in the lobby bathroom, dropped our luggage off with the bellboy and headed to a chair by the pool. We were surprised to see the locals using SPF30! By the time we were ready to leave the pool our room...

Nov 15, 2010 - Day 15
Day 15 - Puerto Escondido to Zihuateneho Starting Odometer: 33345 Miles traveled today: 400 What more can you say about the roads already traveled? Or, once again, the sheer bliss of a morning ride in the fresh tropical air? Before the people, the trucks, the taxis and the burning begins, it seems as it should be. Peaceful. Simple. Pure. Then, the hustle and bustle of this culture begins and it becomes…functional. Still simple, but everyone seems to have a purpose. Interesting observation today: I actually saw a woman sweeping the dirt in...

Nov 6, 2010 - Day 6
Day 6 - Puerto Vallarta to Zihuatanejo Starting Odometer: 30870 Miles traveled today: 440 Gas: Puerto Vallarta, oasis, Manzanillo, oasis, Zihuatanejo Left at 6:30 a.m. after a stop at the nearest Pemex and OXXO for coffee, water and pastries. As many times as I've been to Puerto Vallarta and drove the roads south I've always wondered what it would be like on a moto. Well, pure heaven comes to mind. It was a dream winding through the rainforest on perfect roads, clinging vines dropping from the canopy overhead, the morning sun filtering...

Sep 28, 2010 - The Scoop on MaMa Lou
The Scoop on MaMa Lou Tues. 9/28/10 Today was a sea day. The weather was rainy and windy so we played all day on the ship. Boy, I haven’t made a phone call or heard the news for a week. It’s kind of nice. I have not taken a nap in the past couple of days either, but I feel I’m gearing up for one. This evening Michael, the Head Deck Officer found Bob and I while we were sitting and watching people enjoy the Mexican Bar-B-Que. He told us MaMa Lou was on deck and if I still wanted to meet her, he would introduce us. Well, after we took a few...

Sep 27, 2010 - Bobs Birthday in Acapulco
Bob’s Birthday, Mon. 9/27/10 This morning we docked in Acapulco, Mexico. It’s Bob’s birthday so I’ll do whatever he would like to do today. We stood on deck and watched people as they got off the ship and were whisked off on their excursions to watch Cliff Divers and various things. We decided to spend the day on the ship. We watched the people disembark the ship and every few feet they had locals trying to sell them a ride to somewhere, since the port was not close to the city. We had plenty to do on board. The shows at night have been...

Sep 26, 2010 - Ma Ma Lou
9/26/10 Sunday Some of these days are so laid back, there doesn’t seem to be a lot to write about. We really have no communication with the outside world as far as cell phones and internets goes. They are very expensive. We will buy 100 minutes of internet time to start with and do what we have to do communication wise. Bob and I are sitting in the beautiful Internet Café now on board the ship, typing our journal thoughts on the word processor, then we’ll download several at a time. We both are loving this cruise. The ship is so clean and...
