Overal in de reisgidsen wordt erover gesproken, totnogtoe hadden we daar niets van gemerkt en dachten we dat het een mythe was. Ondanks het ongemak bleven we toch het reisschema volgen en reisden we in de ochtend met de bus verder naar Palenque. ... It was then off to Palenque, also in the Chiapas, to check out the ancient Mayan ruins. ... Really interesting, although we were too poor to afford a tour we managed to move between a few groups to get some free info! Also went on a trip to two waterfalls around the Palenque area, Miso-Ha and Agua Zul which were pretty beautiful and mainly filled with Mexicans, who will only swim fully clothes in shirts and shorts! Pretty funny, and yes the tourists sure stood out. ... Luckily managed to make it back to our cabin in the jungle in our collectivo (shared van for Mexicans) with the driver who seemed to enjoy the challenge of overtaking two buses and a few cars in a row on blind corners and windy roads.It was then off to Palenque, also in the Chiapas, to check out the ancient Mayan ruins. ... We quickly changed into bathing suits and headed over to the colectivo oficina to catch a van to Agua Azul. ... To get to Agua Azul you must pass through two gates where a small fee is collected at each. ... The falls and pools at Agua Azul are simply stunning and lived up to everything I had read and heard about them. ...

Once again it was up early and on the road 'carpool' fashion so that we could get to the ruins in Palenque right as they opened. ... Because of this the ruins at Palenque are much lusher and greener with the jungle often times growing right up to the temples. ... As with other ruins we've visited Palenque was built by the Mayan people. ... The other unique building here at Palenque is the Palace. ... Palenque also had alot of relief carvings and glyphs, some of which are now on display in the museum located on site. ...

Today was basically a ride “from here to there” with little of interest in between. We reached the town of Palenque by 4:00 PM and took a short tour looking for suitable digs. ...
