Feb 4, 2010 - Zinacantan

Took a short side trip to Zinacantan...a small village where the Mayans live and work with their weaving. Cute young Mayan girl "Josephina" sticks her head in our van window to tell us we were not allowed to take pictures without permission and asked Danny to PROMISE we would come back so she could show us where her house was so we could see her own families textiles. The women weave standing up with a leather strap behind their hips...leaning back and using a long bone looking needle to pull the thread through and tamp it down. Very labor...
