Dec 22, 2012 - River ruins, flat tyres and Flores

The first day of the new era thankfully brought a break in the rain and we headed off to the river that seperates Mexico from Guatamala. Our first destination for the day was Yaxchalan, an out of the way ruin complex that can only be accessed via boat. While these were good, I'm not sure that the effort to get there was worth it. And I definately didn't have the energy to explore the whole complex, especially when you had to climb these stairs . We then check out of Mexico and travel down river for an hour before reaching the Guatamalan...

Jul 20, 2010 - Yaxchilian - Mexico

July 16, 2010 Guess who I ran into at the Tonina ruins in Ocosingo? Jana and Andreas! We walked around for a while the decided to go to Palenque together. Germany 2 is doing a lot better than when I left them last. Number 1 can´t wait to get home. Jana and Andreas will be home in two weeks. I have to type this from a satellite so I can´t write much as I will get kicked off anytime. July 20, 2010 The ruins of Palenque were great a little over crowded but great! It´s summer vacation here so everyone is touring the country. I left Palenque...

Feb 11, 2010 - Yaxchilan Ruins 11 - 13 Feb

Continued along the Mexico/Guatemala border. Spent the next several nights in a cabana at Nueva Alianza in the Frontier Corozal, Ocosingo in Chiapas. The cabanas were fantastic and what a deal at 300 pesos a night for 3 people. They had thatched roofs, a deck with hammocks, table and chairs. The inside was very comfortable with new beds complete with mosquito netting and a spacious bathroom and shower with hot water and...bonus...a toilet seat (yeah!!), which we haven't been getting most places lately. I was afraid the mosquito netting...

Aug 18, 2006 - Misol Ha y Agua Azul

Dec 26, 2004 - trip to Yaxchilan

Trip to Yaxchilan: Dec 26 I arranged to take a bus tour to Yaxchilan and Bonampak, sites located deep in the mountainous jungle of Chiapas state. The hotel arranged the tour for me and I had to be up and ready by 6:00 a.m. The bus was a large van that had seating for 12 people. It was full. The van came to the hotel and picked me up. We took off in the dark down the road toward Palenque site and continued beyond for 100 miles into the jungle. The road was recently finished and the travel was smooth and good. When it became light enough to...
