Mar 16, 2011 - Todos Santos via La Paz - Pics Need Captions

Ferry arrived and we got off shortly after 6:30am. It took another hour and a half to get thru a bag check and for the bus to load up before heading into La Paz. After a long day in La Paz we finally got out of town and arr at Canada del Diablo and Barbara Perkins just before closing at 5! Pedro helped us get the car uncovered and off blocks. Bon got into Blue and the wonderful girl (Blue-the car!) fired right up and purred like a contented cat! We got to our dunes campsite just in time to set up our tent and get settled before dark. A damp...

Jan 5, 2010 - Todos Santos

In La Paz we got a late start so instead of heading to TS (we did not know about 4 laner) we ckd into an auto Motel...designed specifically for on night stands!! Complete w/ condoms, over-the-bed mirrors and garages to keep vehicles discretely out of sight! Amazing. Blue (Bon's car) was a very happy camper, ha! She's never had a room of her own (garage) on any of our car travels before. A good thing now since she will be sitting under a tarp in hot TS weather for over a year. We wheeled out onto the divided highway which enters La Paz from...

Apr 21, 2009 - Back home

So that's it! I went to Todos Santos for my last 2 nights. This is an artsy gringo community near Cabo on the Pacific side. Got sick of Mexican food and ate Sushi and pasta my last 2 dinners. Rented a bike so I could get out and explore the nearby beaches. Arrived home in Jasper at 4:00 this morning on the Greyhound. Security is tight these days on the bus! My carry-on luggage was searched and they scanned us all with metal detectors before we could board. Check previous entries, because I've added some more photos now that I'm at my home...

Feb 29, 2008 - Grey Whales - Up Close And Personal

Well, we got our chance to see whales up close. Our kind neighbours, Jeff and Sandra offered to pile us into their club cab pick-up for the 15 minute drive into Todos Santos and then another quick bounce along a dirt path through palm rimmed farmland out to the beach where the freshwater lagoon meets the Pacific. Doing this drive ourselves with Harvey was out of the question the path was narrow and the overhanging grasses and trees formed a sort of tunnel which would have ripped the accessories off our rolling home. The trip was fun with a...

Our Adventure

Feb 16, 2008 - Todos Santos - The Art of Art and Surfing

Artisans and surfers were what we had heard about Todos Santos and it was but a few hours from Cabo so we decided to stop there and break up our return trip to La Paz. Once again, we climbed mountains away from the coast, waving good-bye to booming Cabo. While the developed city lay below, dusty side roads rose from it to meet the main highway. It almost seemed like a movie set, where when glitz is peeled away, the lurking unseen drab emerges. But, as in Hollywood, a bit of humor was there. As we passed a danger sign, we wondered if it was...

Jan 30, 2008 - La Paz to Todos Santos

So lets just say...we LOVE it here! It is probably our favorite spot thus far. The campground is small with great people (happy hours is a 4pm sharp!) and the beach is within walking distance. The town is also cute with good shops. When we arrived on Wednesday we got set up and then took a walk to the beach. While making our way we picked up a hitch hiker...a super cute dog! He had a collar so we knew he was taken care of but it was fun to have him along the way anyhow. From the beach we could see many whales. That evening then after happy...

Mexico Bound!

Jan 27, 2008 - Back in La Paz

So today we are back at the campground in La Paz to re-charge us and the batterie. La Ventana was a hoot but we are glad to be back where we have internet and electric. Tomorrow we will make a day trip to Todos Santos, a popular art town on the Pacific side, where we also hope to see more whales.

Mexico Bound!

Jan 15, 2008 - Been on the road for three months!

Tuesday January 15... 10:20pm Three months on the road! It feels like a lot longer than 3 months since we left Ottawa! We left early this morning. Made it through La Paz, but I'll tell you, the Mexican road system is not very good at putting signs up. You pretty much have to guess if you're making the correct turn in the correct direction. When we stopped so that Glen and Steve could refill their propane tank, a guy from Quebec pulled over to ask if we thought he was headed in the right direction. He made the same comment about the lack of...

Jan 13, 2008 - Pacific Surf - Jean's Last Hurrah Before The Long Journey Home

Another day, we drove West across the cape to the Pacific side to visit the artsy town of Todos Santos and then on to the beach at Los Cerritos for some fun body surfing. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Pacific beach waters to be much warmer than the water in Los barriles on the Sea side. And the surf is so much fun. Los Cerritos is renowned as a great beginners' beach for surfing with its steady small break in a sort of protected bay. We scouted out a campground for future travels then headed back across the desert and the...

Our Adventure

Dec 21, 2007 - Todos Santos

Yesterday we took a side trip across the Baja to Todos Santos near the Pacific Coast. While only about 45 miles away as the crow flies, the northern route over the mountains is about 78 miles. You can also get there by heading south through the Cabo towns and then up the Pacific Coast for a total of 116 miles. We elected to go through the mountains. As we wound our way into the mountains through the town of San Bartolo we were once again struck by how green everything is. One of the prettier towns in the Baja is San Antonio. This small...

Mar 24, 2006 - Todo Santos

We spent a night in Todos Santos, a "funky" little town on the Pacific side. Very relaxing, spent most of our time while in town checking out all the colorful ceramics for sale. Sands got the best of all sun dials, and some tiles. And I got a sink that will require a bathroom re-model in my house (which it needs, so now I have a theme to work with).
