Mar 23, 2006 - Baja - Cactus Garden
While strolling through San Jose Del Cabo, Sands and I came to this Cactus Garden, just about the time we saw the cattle in the street - definately not Kansas anymore, Toto. At first we thought the place might be a bit lacking for a $3.00 admissions fee, but were VERY pleasantly surprised by the quality of the diversity of the cactus and quality of the garden design. The allure for seeing more og the town pulled us away after about an hour, but we both could have stayed longer. I'd highly recommend a stop here if you are ever in the area.

I had the good fortune of spending the last week in March in the southern part of Baja, Mexico. I had never been there, although heard plenty of good things about it - all of which are true. Very interesting to see Sonoran desert meet Pacific Ocean (west side) or Carribean (east side). It's also true that there is a very strong gringo influence, but it still felt like a very different culture to me. I hooked up with my pal Sands, from Eugene, and we met at the airport in San Jose Del Cabo, rented a car, and off we went. These pictures are...

Days in Cabo San Lucas (Cabo for short) 3/15 - 3/24 From the Swab First Class Comparing to the passage from Turtle Bay to Mag Bay, the one from Mag to Cabo was like a piece of sour cream blueberry pie (better than a piece of cake). Only 32 hours of calm sea. Did I say ONLY 32 hours?!! I fell like a salty seasoned sailor. We pulled into Cabo at around 12:45 PM. Instead of going straight to fuel dock like good sailors, we just dropped the anchor, changed into shorts sat in cockpit, drank cold drinks and sighed Ahhhhhh. I could not believe we...

Mar 9, 2006 - Las Barriles to Cabo San Lucas
The journey continues. Off to Cabo and the southern most point in the Baja. The trip was relatively sane. At times there were even four lane highways. The campground was on a bluff overlooking the Sea of Cortez and the harbor in downtown. This was a welcome six night stay. The highlight of the stay was when our sons Tony and Gary arrived to join the fun. They stayed at an all inclusive resort north of Cabo in San Jose de Cabo. The boys enjoyed a day of deep sea fishing and many libations in the sunshine. The sea was a little too deep as...

Feb 14, 2006 - La Paz to Cabo San Lucas, Day 12
Tuesday, 2/14/2006, Day 12 At 5:45 AM we left the RV park to get gas before getting in line for the wagontrain to head further south. We exited La Paz on Dick's time and headed down Route 19 to Cabo San Lucas, the most southern town on the Baja. We spotted several whales jumping near shore as we drove along the edge of the Pacific Ocean. We also spotted a larger than usual number of pigs, cattle, goats and burros along side the highway. Our destination RV park was on far side of town. This is the largest town in Baja Sur. It was congested...

Apr 24, 2005 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (SJD)
Hola! We are indeed coming to you from a Spanish-speaking country. First, though, I want to tell you why I almost didn't come down here. SOFTBALL I got invited to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to check out the brand new Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat & Spa (from now on I'll just call it Pacifica) for a few days. I was excited to go until the day before - right after a horrible softball game. I hadn't played softball (one of my favorite games) in a long time, so when I was asked to join a team a month ago I jumped at the chance. The first...

Feb 15, 2005 - at the bottom of the Baja
This might be a time when a picture says a thousand words. The weather is perfect and the scenery outstanding. A gourmet brunch at a fancy hotel overlooking the bay. A boat ride to the arch surrounded by seals and pelicans. Lots of great little souvenir and handicraft shops. A steak and lobster dinner for $9.95. A swim in the pool. A lady who delivers homemade pies to our campsite. What more could I ask for?

Feb 12, 2005 - Cabo San Lucas
We've just spent five days in Cabo San Lucas on the tip of Baja. It was a long sail to get here, but after months of sitting on the dock in San Diego, it feels great to finally be on our way. I suppose I had never considered how long the Baja Peninsula actually is. It's about 800 miles from San Diego to Cabo, which translates to six days and nights of sailing. We're on Mountain Time here and farther East than Salt Lake City. Luckily, at this time of year, the prevailing winds and seas are primarily from the Northwest; a good thing when one...

Feb 10, 2005 - The arrival after the first thousand miles
We arrived in Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Today's entry is to offer a quick update and notice that we are here. We will fill in the details of the log over the past several days travel to here. We never intended to stop in Cabo but our bodies gave out and the long passages changed our plans more than once along the way. We have actually been enjoying this bustling city for the past few days. After being in remote and very rural areas, this is a big change and adds a new twist to the adventure. We have had some great meals at local...

Jan 9, 2005 - Baja to Cabo San Lucas
As you might remember, last January was one of the rainiest ever in California. While we were driving down Baja the rain clouds were following us. Most of the 1200 mile peninsula is desert, and some places only rarely get rain. But this year was different and in some places the only highway was flooded. But, by the time we reached the southern part of the peninsula the rain was gone and the sun was shining. Baja is very desolate, and we camped almost every night. Often we would drive miles down a rough dirt road and set up camp in the sand...

Nov 23, 2004 - Bahia Santa Maria to Cabo San Lucas
We left Bahia Santa Maria mid-afternoon on 11/21 on a planned three nighter to La Paz, with a plan to arrive the day before Thanksgiving. There were NW winds forcast in the Sea of Cortez on 11/23, which we knew would make it semi-questionable as to whether we could make it (our boat does not progress well against strong wind and/or waves and/or currents), but we thought we would give it a try in case the forecast was wrong. We were planning to meet our friends on the Pegasus (neighbors on Bainbridge for 7.5 years before they left for Mexico...

Cabo San Lucas The Mexican Riviera Cruising along the Baja California Peninsula to Cabo San Lucas at the tip. Arrived just before 7am when sunrise was just happening (though we had been watching the lights of the towns & lighthouses for about an hour). Some spectacular rocky formations at the entrance to the harbour. An armada of fishing boats heading out at first light. Sonny & Susie headed off on a game fishing trip for the day with Sonny catching (& releasing) a marlin and Susie catching & releasing a dolphin fish plus several Doggie...
