Jan 12, 2010 - Cabo San Lucas, January 10-11, 2010

Photos are posted but narrative, comments & titles will have to be edited in the near future for our experience(s) in Cabo San Lucas. Tomorrow (Jan 13), we will be docking in San Diego to off load passengers & picking up World Cruisers, getting last minute supplies, calling people we couldn't call on "international roaming" (AT & T store is one of our stops). 2 days on shore!! Jan. 14 we will set sail for the "official" start of the 2010 World Cruise. While our trip from Acapulco was a day and long half at sea, we got to experience, again...

Oct 30, 2009 - Hasta luego in Baja California

The last part of our trip was an all inclusive stay at the Hotel Riu resort at Cabo San Lucas in Baja California, Mexico. We flew from LA into Hurricane Rick which kindly headed south and gave us five days of beautiful warm sunny weather suitable for lounging by the pool and on the beach – a great way to finish our trip. So that is it for this trip.

Feb 27, 2009 - Our Last Full Day in Cabo

You know the saying, all good things come to an end. Today was our last full day at Cabo San Lucas. We didn't do any activity except go to town to pick up a few souvenirs, then we spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool and basking in the sun. We ate dinner at "Mi Casa", an authentic Mexican restaurant. The woman in this picture greeted us at the entrance. I think she smoked one too many cigarettes. :-) I think my date was cuter. :) The food was very good. After we ate, we were treated to a Mexican tradition. A man brought to the...

Feb 26, 2009 - Ocean Fishing

Today we decided to try our luck with ocean fishing. We chartered a private boat for just the two of us, figuring our odds would be better to catch a marlin if we were the only ones on the boat fishing. We cruised up the coastline about 30 miles or so (it took us an hour to get there). We saw several seals and the boat hands told us that where you see seals, you'll see Marlin. They were right. Within a minute of the first cast, the battle began for me (Mike). What an exciting experience. The biggest fish I had ever caught in my life was a...

Feb 25, 2009 - Happy Birthday Karen!!

We started the day by taking a boat ride over to Lovers Beach, which is about a mile from the condo across Cabo San Lucas Bay. Lovers Beach is at Lands End, on the Sea of Cortez side. Its a short walk up the beach to the Pacific Ocean side. We saw several interesting sandstone formations. I tried to find a geocache on the hillside but ran out of time. Our ride only gave us 1.5 hours to explore. Here are a few pictures from the beach at Lands End. As we returned I took this photo of our timeshare condo (Villa Del Arco) from the bay. ...

Feb 24, 2009 - Whale Watching

Today we set sail on the Ecocat (supposedly the largest catamaran in Mexico). Actually, we didn't sail, we motored, but it sounds better if I say we sailed. :) This multi-million dollar catamaran was quite the boat. The crew treated us to breakfast down in the cabin. We first sailed around the arch, then out to sea in search of gray whales. The gray whales come down from Alaska to Baja Mexico, a distance of more than 6000 miles, to mate and have their young in these warm waters. After 2 or 3 months, the gray whales travel back up north to...

Feb 23, 2009 - The Buccaneer Queen

We're now owners of a timeshare at Villa Del Arco. We've been talking about doing more travel and possibly buying a timeshare. Well staying at this place sold us. We love it here and can't wait to come back with the family!! After signing the contract, we hit the beach and played in the water, and laid out on lounge chairs soaking in the sun (sorry to all of you up in the cold climates) :) The water was very nice. Here is the view looking out towards the bay from our balcony. This evening we took a sunset cruise on the Buccaneer Queen, a...

Feb 22, 2009 - A Day in Town

This morning we were treated to a nice buffet breakfast on the house. We agreed to listen to a 90 minute presentation and tour of the facility. It was a very low pressure sales pitch. The penthouse suite here is amazing and huge. It had an outdoor jacuzi and barbecue out on the balcony. At the end of the meeting we were offered a deal that was hard to refuse. It happened to be a buy out of someone elses time share, which the owners could no longer continue traveling or owning. Its a 2 bedroom suite, 2 weeks per year, for 30 years. We're...

Feb 21, 2009 - We Arrived!!

We're here. What a beautiful location and hotel. Our plane landed at about noon and after getting through customs, then the maze of time share salespeople, we boarded the taxi and made it to the hotel around 2pm. We listened to a welcome presentation, got some ideas and prices of activities in the area, and got to the room at 3pm. Probably the most luxurious lodging we've ever stayed at. Two bedroom, 3 baths, 1 and 1/2 kitchens, and 2 balconies. We walked around the grounds, by the pools, and the beach, to get familiar with the layout....

Feb 20, 2009 - On Our Way

The day has arrived. We left Wenatchee today, flew to Seattle, had a 3 hour layover there, then continued on and arrived in San Francisco at 10PM. It was a nice flight to Seattle with great views of the mountains. Our plane to San Francisco (Alaska Ailines) had a painting of a salmon on the side. It was called the Salmon Thirty Salmon (a pun on the model of the plane, the Boeing "737"). The only glitch of the day was at the hotel in San Fran, finding out my shampoo had leaked out (loose lid) and saturated my toothbrush. I guess that means...

Feb 19, 2009 - The Effects of Tequila

Just a short post to express how our daughter did us proud in the Tequila/Beer guzzling Olympics at the Mango Bar/Restaurant on the beach at Cabo San Lucas. We spent the morning sunning and decided to have some lunch. The Mango was hopping; they were in the middle of a "Name That Tune" contest when we arrived. Once that contest finished they recruited 4 girls to take part in some further festivities. This required one to take a double shot of tequila, run down to the water's edge, guzzle a beer, spin around a pole 10 times and then run back...

Feb 18, 2009 - Cabo San Lucas - still!

Still enjoying lovely Mexico! Interesting morning though ... I mentioned in a previous post that when we drove into the country we weren't asked to stop, show a passport, etc. But we had read that we were supposed to have obtained a tourist card and were to have gotten it at an immigration office at the border and then paid approx. $20 U.S. to a bank to pay for it. But because we didn't have to stop we were sort of disoriented and didn't see any immigration office so we kept going. When we got here we decided to go to the local Canadian...
