Nov 11, 2016 - Jet skis to Santa Maria Cove

Friday, November 11th: Jet Skis and Snorkeling Weather: Hot and sunny with a light breeze Route: Cabo Azul Resort --> Mega Mall via local 'Urbano' bus --> Cabo San Lucas via Intercity bus --> Pemex Gas Station across from the City Club --> FullSpeed Jet Ski east of Medano Beach On Tuesday, after we had found the jet ski tour we wanted online, we had arranged by phone to meet the FullSpeed Tours agent, Odo, at 10:00 today. We made sure we were on the local 'Urbano' bus to the Mega Mall by 9:00. Having ridden the local and intercity buses...

Nov 10, 2016 - Sailing to Santa Maria Cove

Thursday, November 10th: Sailing and snorkeling Weather: hot and dry Route: Cabo Azul Resort --> Mega Mall via local 'Urbano' bus --> Cabo San Lucas via Intercity bus --> Cabo San Lucas Marina Our private sailing/snorkeling tour was reserved for 13:00. We lingered over a late breakfast of yogurt, fruit, granola and toast (I finished off the fish leftovers) before walking to the corner to catch the local Urbano bus -- a repurposed school bus -- to take us to the Mega Mall. Even though we were familiar with this ride we were perplexed at the...

May 13, 2015 - Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is in a gorgeous location at the bottom of the 775 mile Baja Peninsula. It would be easy to argue that the Baja is more part of California than Mexico; it is only attached by a small piece of land on the northern edge. So far it seems less affected by drug cartel terrorism and the port was well guarded by soldiers sporting rifles that were as tall as they were. Cabo does not have a deep water port so we and the Disney Wonder had to tender passengers ashore. Getting off the life boat we were surprised to have our hand bags...

Mar 15, 2015 - Mexico - Cabo San Lucas

I took the Amtrak to San Diego (quite a nice way to travel – lots of legroom and the ability to walk around or go to the lounge car). Then a short flight to Cabo which is quite developed with lots of new development coming soon, and is crowded with a million students because it is spring break. I’ve done a few things here – went on a boat ride to see the famous Arch, went zip-lining, visited the glass blowing factory, learnt how tequila is made, saw whales, and was hounded by many time share salesmen.

Feb 17, 2014 - Cabo San Lucas

We are in Cabo San Lucas. This is as far south as you can go on the Baja Peninsula. To go farther south we would have go by boat and if we went straight south the first land we would come to would be Antarctica, so guess we will just head home next. We had a nice time in Los Barilles. We were not right on the beach but close enough to see the water. It was fun walking down to the beach and watching kite boarders and windsurfers. It makes one want to be at least 30 years younger but, then we would have to be working. Maureen, a friend from...

Feb 4, 2014 - Cabo San Lucas

We arrived in Cabo San Lucas this morning around 7:00 A.M. We had to use the tenders to get ashore this time. Once ashore, we met with out tour group and went on a very nice boat to see the Arch and Lover’s Beach. After the boat tour we went on a bus tour of Cabo San Lucas. After the bus tour we spent time shopping and having lunch at Senor Frog’s. This is a most unusual restaurant, one guy was celebrating his birthday, they gave him all the free beers he could drink. They had a huge hose at the top of the deck on the second floor of the...

Feb 2, 2014 - Super Bowl at Sea

We had a very full and fun day at sea. After we shopped till we dropped in Ensenada, we had the largest super bowl party we have ever attended. They have a huge movie screen on deck 14 where they showed the game. People were in the pool swimming while watching, some were in the Jacuzzi, others were all over the two viewing decks watching in lawn chairs. Jerry and I watched the first half, then the wind picked up and we went inside. They had the best super bowl party we have ever been to. They served chicken wings, BBQ, hot dogs, burgers,...

Nov 26, 2013 - First day in Mexico - sun, fun and exercise!

26 NOV 13 – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Day 5. Today, we visited Mexico for the first time. With a late morning arrival (11:00), we had plenty of time to watch as the Star made her way slowly down the last few kilometres of the Baja California coast and turned into the bay in front of Cabo San Lucas. This port does not have a dock of sufficient size to berth large cruise ships, so we anchored a little way off and were to be tendered ashore in the Star’s own lifeboats. As we had an early private tour booking, we wanted to disembark as early as...

Mar 24, 2013 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

March 24, 2013 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico We are disappointed that we only have a few hours at this port of call. We arrived at 7 am and sail at about 2 pm. This is a tender port and the last tender back to the ship leaves at 1 pm. We swam with the dolphins today. What a great experience! It was better than I expected. We were in a very large saltwater pool; in groups of 8 people. Each group had a dolphin and trainer. Our dolphin’s name is Aqua, a 26 year old female 550 pounds about 10 feet long. We started out sitting at the edge of the pool...

Jan 12, 2013 - Great News!!! Gil IS FEELING BETTER!!

Gil is feeling SO much better!! So we decided to take a drive up the Baja coast all the way to La Paz. We had a great time. We went to Cabo Pulmo, an ecological marine park, with protected reefs. Then on to El Truinfo, a historic silver mining town, which had a Piano Museum! At one time they had more pianos per capita in the whole country! After that we ventured into La Paz, WAY to big for us, so we chose to hang out at the hotel we rented and just relax for a few days. Before returning to Cabo, we went to another town called Todo Santos...

Cabo 2012/2013

Dec 30, 2012 - at sea toward Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

12/30 at sea toward Cabo There was a huge, gorgeous red sun this morning & I was up in time to see it along with Jean & Jerry. We had a very relaxing day aboard ship. Pam is a bit better, Jerry is improving, and now Jean is having some food issues. In spite of hand sanitizers all over the ship plus cool settings on the A/C, the germs continue to spread. We attended a variety of sessions, but mostly relaxed. Jim spent the morning playing pinochle with his lady friends. (I don’t know how to spell it or play it.) He enjoys this card game and...
