Jan 12, 2009 - El Rosario, Baja Norte

Today we drove south to El Rosario. It was an uneventful drive. It was only 80 km but time consuming. The hills got bigger and the roads got narrower and the speed limit was only 60 kph most of the way. The days are lovely with a temperature of about 23 degrees. It gets cold at night. Down to about 6 C.

Jan 20, 2008 - Ensenada to El Rosario, Baja

We slept in a little after a noisy night trying sleep with horns blaring until well into the early morning hours. Once again it was a chilly morning so it was just as well we did not try to start off early. We went to breakfast at the hotel restaurant and found it brightly decorated and nearly full. It turned out to be a baby shower and there was at least 50 ladies having breakfast with the mother to be. It was quite an affair. It was a breakfast buffet and just as we were getting up to get some breakfast there was an announcement and they...

May 27, 2005 - El Rosario, not the town Sinatra sang about

Question? How many hikes does it take to get From Ensenada to El Rosario? Yesterday I was clueless. Today, I know the answer is 9. How many from El Rosario to San Agnosio? I'll tell you tomorrow? We're seeing mexico from the back of a truck. I have no picture of it, but please imagine the two of us with huge packs getting into a small two seat van with a family of five already there. Sardinage. Dave wishes a formal apology to his sister Beth for hitch-hiking part of the trip. It's simply an early trip phase we are in. We can't post our pics...

Feb 20, 2005 - please utilize your chastity belt for security

Driving the Baha is not for the faint hearted, especially when towing a trailer. This is why I spend long periods of time white knuckling the door handle, as if the ability to leap out would spare me from a certain death. Ken, as always, handles the driving with aplomb. Today we went from sea level to 1200 feet in about two miles. Need I mention that this involved numerous switch backs and much crunching of gravel as we swept around corners, hoping an 18 wheeler was not coming in our direction. While the pavement is generally good, the road...

Nov 11, 2004 - Ensenada to Bahia San Quintin

We left Ensenada as planned the afternoon of 11/11, on an overnight journey to Bahia San Quintin. It was windy and fairly rough, but that means we were able to sail most of the way! Bryan has now been fully initiated as crew, since he got seasick. So much for our friends who told us it was all "gravy" south of Point Conception. We arrived in Bahia San Quintin around 11:30 a.m. on 11/12, which is about when we expected to arrive. Along the way, we visited with two other boats on the radio that were headed to the same place slightly ahead of...
