Mar 7, 2013 - Atar, Adrar region, Mauritania

Well I haven't quite reached my destination , but I am close. So, I arrived at the train station at 2 o'clock, all set for the 2.30 train. Alas, I waited and waited, then I waited a little bit more, before it finally arrived at 8.30, a full 6 hours late...welcome to West Africa! Dec 25, 2005 - Atar to Terjît

Weather: Cool & Windy Woke up, packed up and pondered on how I would get to Terjît. I spoke to Olivier, a Frenchman who was also leaving Bab Sahara, so I joined him and another Frenchman in walking into town. First I had to pay my bill, and as is often the case, there was no change. I intended repaying Olivier after buying some travel supplies at a shop, but my purchase was...

As dawn approached and the sun rose behind thick bands of cloud, the sky frequently changed colours and I was able to watch through my window from my bed at my leisure. Once out of bed, I ordered a petite dejenour and washed down the bread, butter & jam with coffee & cocoa as I sat and listened to the others sitting at my table, speaking French. As I...
