Mar 28, 2019 - Huvafen Fushi
Well today pretty much mirrored the last few days. We woke up and looked out our bedroom window to the multicolored ocean before us. The next harddecision was what to have for breakfast. Overcoming that decision we then retired to our private beach that had been prepared by our butler with lounges, ice water cooler, towels and and an umbrella. What transpired next was some novel reading and serious relaxation. We then went to the infinity pool for an early afternoon cocktail and then proceeded to go snorkeling. We snorkeled along the reef...

Mar 26, 2019 - Huvafen Fushi
Today was another beautiful day in paradise. We got up and went to the gym which sits out over the water and it’s really lovely. We worked out and then went to breakfast and then back to our room for some relaxing, reading, and cribbage play. We had hoped to go scuba diving, but as we have not been on a dive in more than six months they require us to take a refresher course for the two of us for $400. In addition the dive would probably be another two to $300, so we decided to snorkel. The water is warm and lovely and the fish are colorful...

Mar 25, 2019 - Huvafen Fushi
Not a lot new to report. We are in the Maldives which consists of 1195 atolls of which only 200 or occupied. Our lodgings are spectacular and if I didn’t say it before we have our own private butler who is on call day and night. We spent the day lounging around at our infinity pool on our back porch and at the infinity pool in the main area. The food is also outstanding and more than one can eat. Mike had a salad at lunch with a jumbo prawns on it that looked more like a lobster than a prawn. Breakfast is a huge buffet of all sorts of...

Mar 24, 2019 - Maldives
After a lovely breakfast at our hotel and a 2 Hour drive to the airport we boarded a plane to the Maldives. After getting our luggage we were greeted by a representative from our resort and taken to a private room and given cold scented towels. We were escorted onto a speed boat, were offered water and traveled to our resort. Upon arrival we were greeted by name given another cold wet scented towel and a welcome drink and introduced to our private butler. He is actually on call anytime we want and only caters to us. We stopped on the beach...

Mar 23, 2016 - Maldives - I Swam with Sharks!
Well, I managed to keep the motion sickness at bay for most of the entire week while bobbing around the Indian Ocean in a little dhoni. Our days basically consisted of eating, cruising, snorkeling, sleeping, eating, cruising, snorkeling, sleeping, etc. Which I know sounds boring to many of you, but it was nice to just completely unplug and do a whole lot of nothing. The highlight of most days was spotting dolphins. They have to be the happiest and most magical animals on the planet. Once or twice they came right up to the boat and danced...

Feb 25, 2016 - Ferry to Maafushi then back to Male 2/29
S. Island of Male.11/25 As it was, thanks to Bon, we knew to catch a ferry for a different island, Magfasin/Maafushi, where a lot of bacckpackers go and prices are a bit more reasonable - still high vs India. Mare wanted to immediately go for a drink rather than find a place to stay - 5:30 p.m.! Bon and I spent next hour walking and checking out accomodations. It's high season so most places are full. Finally, we ended up at Narnia a nice Guest House with nice folks - still $67 U.S. per nite (our most expensive in India was $35 U.S. and...

Plane took off 6 a.m. from Delhi airport for Bangalor where we landed at 8:45. Had breakfast on this Air India flight...totally unexpected, GREAT! Then on the flight to Male, Maldive which took off at ll a.m. and landed at 12:30 we got another complete meal!! Mari loves this 'seat of your pants' travel with no idea of where to go or stay until you arrive. I, on the other hand, hate it. If it hadn't been that Bon had investigated the Maldives much earlier we would probably ended up in the Male capital with little or no access to snorkeling...
Jump to full entryJan 10, 2012 - Our penultimate night! :( But possibly the best night ever!
In the evening we had possibly the best night ever! We were taken by boat to an island about 30mins away. The island is completely uninhabited save 3 people who stay there to look after it, but who we didn't see at all. We had our own private chef and a waiter who, on arrival to the island, set up a BBQ on which to cook our food. We went for a walk all the way around the island, and when we got back to where we'd started, our waiter had set up a table and chairs, and surrounded it with lanterns. By this time the sun was just about setting,...

Jan 7, 2012 - Arriving in the Maldives and first few days
So - the last leg of our journey!! Boo Hiss. We flex from Phuket to Singapore and then had a few hours in the airport (which is very nice indeed - lots of space and shops and restaurants.) Lizi had a Starbucks. Richard had a Burger King. What a crazy life we lead. Then we flew to Male on a fairly empty flight and were very well looked after by the lovely staff of Singapore Airlines. One highlight - a whole magnum ice cream for dessert!! When we got to Male it was already late (around midnight) and we knew we had to find out what time our...

Dec 1, 2011 - Final Maldivian boat ride
Another clear, warm amazing day in Maldives. This am we're leaving quite early as we have a couple stops to make before heading back to Male'. This time we are looking for Manta Rays. A Manta Ray is a giant cousin of a Sting Ray. They only eat fish and will not harm humans. My kinda fish. We head out after breakfast and go about an hour and a half. The captain spots something in the water. We stop and toss the anchor overboard. We quickly prep for our snorkel, jump into the water directly and begin to swim. We can see a few large Mantas...

Nov 30, 2011 - BOat Building and an amazing sunset
Another beautiful day in Maldives. We were all laughing as all of us blog about out trip and decided that The Maldives portion is boring. It consists of weather, snorkeling, fish, and eating. Because pretty much that is all we do! We stopped at a couple places today to snorkel. On our way to the first we began to see other boats. This was a first as we havent seen any other boats since we left Male' on Saturday. The first place we stopped to snorkel had a really big drop off from the reef. this basically means to the left of me bright...

Nov 29, 2011 - An island in the middle of nowhere. 400 residents
A beautiful day in Maldives. We woke up to a rainbow over our special island. Seems the captain was a busy guy this morning as he went fishing and caught 2 blue fin trevally, 2 blue fin tuna and 2 barracuda with teeth as large as a small shark. A Quick breakfast of fruit and toast and we are off to a day on dhiggaru island. I napped next to the fish on the way. We changed and jumped in the dingy to have a morning snorkel. Wow. It was truly an underwater city for fish. Schools and schools of beautiful fish. We saw a sea turtle dart down...
