Sep 19, 2012 - Day trip to Bako Natl Park + Next Day Orang Rehab Center

Wiki Info Bako National Park Since Nomad manager, Chris, said it was not necessary to go at 6:30am for bus to Bako, we decided 7:30 was early enough although we waited at the bus stop 2 blocks away from Nomad until 8:15. While waiting at least 3 taxis stopped and tried to get us to pay the 1.50 more for their fare. Bon & I - the cheapskates - refused even tho if it had been just the Dutch folks they'd have paid and gone by taxi. Of course, they're all working stiffs, a PhD in pharmaceuticals, a financial consultant, and an owner of a safety...

Dec 10, 2011 - Borneo - Day 6 & 7 - Proboscis Monkeys, Flying Lemur, Wild Boars - Bako National Park

Dec 9th: Took the bus from Kuching to the boat ramp near Bako National Park. This small peninsula is 1 and a half hours from Kuching and is home to seven distinct rainforest ecosystems, giving rise to a remarkable diversity of animal and plant life. Bako’s most famous residents are the bizarre proboscis monkeys and it is also home to the silvered langurs (leaf monkeys), long tailed macaque monkeys, bearded pigs, flying squirrels and monitor lizards, as well as many different bird species. Fascinating plant life includes the mangroves,...

May 24, 2010 - Bako National Park

Mar 11, 2009 - A day trip to Bako National Park.

Bako National Park is about 40 minutes bus ride from Kuching and is the first of what will no doubt be many wildlife parks that I visit in Borneo. Its 27 sq km of unspoilt forest and shoreline and well worth a visit. After the bus ride there was a memorable boat ride upriver, the tide was low so we ran aground as expected and had to paddle knee deep in water on the mud flats maybe 200m to the shoreline and then walk a kilometer or two to the park entrance. The sun was up and the day was getting hotter so we decided on walking the circular...

Jun 24, 2008 - Bako National Park, Malaysia (Borneo)

First of all - weather - since we have been in Malaysia, it has rained every day about 2:00pm for a couple of hours. No big deal. So we went to Bako NP and had two great days of complete sun! Our first day we did a 9-hour jungle trek - We got our first glimpse of the rare Proboscis monkeys. They are so cool! Long noses and very playful. This was the first time we had seen monkeys in the wild (not like Kathmandu, Nepal and the monkey temple). We were pretty wiped out and had a quick dinner and went to bed. We got up early the next day...
