Feb 22, 2011 - Taman Negara

Journey to Taman negara national park. What can we say? Challenging and amazing. The bus journey was hot long and tedious. 2 hour wait in Jerantut for the boat-must be the hottest, sleepiest town in Asia. Boat trip was beautiful at first, the river bank stretched either side, we saw a baby crocodile swimming along, and lots of laughing brown children. After a while, the numb bum and terrific heat got to us, and we were glad to get off. Fortunately we'd booked into a fantastic resort across the river, and are staying in a lovely chalet with...

Jul 23, 2009 - The never ending trail

After a few days in KL seeing the sights, we headed north to Taman Negara National Park, the oldest rainforest in the world. We started our trek on a really fun canopy roped walkway 30 meters above the forest - a little nerve racking but very fun - and great photos. Still up for continued adventure we decided to try another trail, thinking we could pretty easily do a 7.5 K trek. Several hours later, no water and nearly vertical climbing we decided to turn back. We finally were "rescued" at a small beach not ALL the way back to where we...

Oct 18, 2008 - Taman Negara 1

Taman Negara, what a amazing place to be. Taman Negara is a mass of primary jungle over 130 million years old and sprawling across 4400 sq Km. It took us 3.5hours on a bus and 3hours on the boat to get there from KL, it's well worth the travel. We loved the boat ride to Kuala Tahan (small village at the entrance of Taman Negara National Park). We were on a old wooden longtail boat, and the scenery was so calming, rainforest so lush, calm water, water buffaloes cooling off, local kids having a swim... it was just unreal. Kuala Tahan was...

Oct 18, 2008 - Taman Negara 2

On the second day in Taman Negara, We met our local tour guide, Apah again in the morning to do Jungle trekking. The highlight of the trekking is the world-longest cannopy walk (520m)thorough the jungle. Lexi is affraid of the height, so we weren't sure if we could complete this. Hiro started first and Lexi was to follow 5m after him. Hiro was already at the first platform, while Lexi was still at the start hesitating, but she managed to start it and reached the first platform. She realised that this cannopy walk is one way only, and she...

Sep 18, 2008 - The Ancient Jungle - Taman Negara

We were excited about seeing Taman Negara as it is even older than the Amazon rainforest. We took a river boat from Kuala Tembeling to Kuala Tahan and saw monitor lizards and water buffalos on our way. The three hour journey was very calm and relaxing and it was refreshing to watch the forest float by while we sat in our motorised canoe. Kuala Tahan wasn't an awful place either; there were good riverside hostels and a very relaxed atmosphere, but, most importantly, there were considerably more trees than anything else. When we arrived Tara...

Aug 20, 2008 - Malaysia - Taman Negara

Next stop: Taman Negara. A buzzing, leach-infested mass of primary forest, over 130 million years old, which sprawls for 4,500 square km. We caught a bus from KL to Kuala Tembeling jetty, then a long boat up river into the heart of the national park. The boat journey itself was great fun - good, as it lasted a few hours! - and provided some spectacular scenery. Our driver seemed ultra-keen to get somewhere, and thrashed the outboard motor, with the result that we sped past all the other boats and arrived first at Kuala Tahan - base camp...

Jan 21, 2008 - First day in Malaysia

Monday,21st January 2008 - 3.0 am The train left Johor Bahru on the Malaysian border at 6.50 yesterday evening and after eating dinner I took out my computer and tried to work on a few pictures, in Photoshop, for a while, but the train was lurching around and it was very difficult. Typing was also difficult as the light was not good enough to see the keyboard. Then my persistent problem returned and I decided to try and get some sleep. Andie was already snoring in her bunk. (She wasn't really snoring, but she seems worried that I might say,...

Jun 25, 2007 - Leeches, leeches, leeches...... and a King Cobra

Taman Negara is located in the middle of Malaysia peninsular Malaysia's largest national park. It was quite a journey to get there, and ended up being quite a journey to get out too! We had to catch a bus from K.L to a town called Jenentut then a bus to the pier then a 3 hour longtail boat into the sleepy town in the national park. We stayed in the town which is across the river from the national park (when you want to go over to the NP you just pay a boat driver 1 ringet and he takes you over there) and all the restaurants are boats, its...
