Jan 27, 2015 - 26th - 28th January 2015

26th - didn't do anything very eventful. Had breakfast at a bread/cake shop. Guy had a piece of pizza and I had a ring doughnut and we had a pot of tea. Very nice. Went to the beach. It was extremely hot; so hot, that we had to drag our beds under the umbrella. At 5ish we went to the Cliff to have a beer in happy hours....their happy hour is from 12 - 6, funny hour but it was nice to have cold draught in a cold glass instead of a can. We booked a table for tomorrow night overlooking the bay. Should be lovely although it's pretty expensive....

Got up late. Went to coffee shop for breakfast, quite expensive in comparison to Thailand. It cost 28ringitts, 5 to the £ or thereabouts so approx £6. Then went to the beach for a sunbathe where we stayed till around 4pm, went back to the room and had a drink (tea), the wandered out to the laundry and then the fruit market to buy something for breakfast in the morning, then on the yellow bar for a beer in happy hour and we also had a portion of spring rolls. Back and changed and for dinner. Just something light today; jippy tum :/ 24th -...

Jan 22, 2015 - Off to Langkawi

This morning started ok. We'd packed more or less the night before ready to be collected at 10:00 am and transported to the ferry terminal about 30 mins away. We were looking forward to sitting on the top deck with our books and sunning ourselves. We got a phone call this morning whilst eating our breakfast at 8:30 to say the pier, NOT the location, had been changed and we were being collected earlier. We were collected at 9:00am in a mini bus, taken into Trang town by the railway station, dumped out of the van and put into a 'car'....

Nov 23, 2014 - Langkawi, Malaysia

Peter checked in from Malaysia and said it was very beautiful - temperature in the low 80's, breezy, palm trees - very much like a rustic Florida. That must have been delightful, after the recent dose of winter he enjoyed in Indianapolis before he left. Things are going well on the ship. This first cruise is a charter for some kind of music business so he did not expect to have any performance duties for a few days. Some big news - he has been promoted! He will be the Assistant Music Director for the ship, beginning as soon as his...

23rd - Well didn't do much, found a lovely cake/coffee shop and we both had pain au raisin and coffee for breakie then on to the beach. Selected the wrong part of the beach.....jet skis everywhere! Wouldn't mind, but there's too many for amount of people on the beach! 4:30, happy hour at Yellow Cafe again. Sat inside because it's been so hot all day. Need to cool off. We met a lovely couple, Paula and Teco from Brazil....hi you two. We laughed because they had to same discussion we did about the 'submarine' .....there's a rock/island not...

Jan 22, 2014 - Rampant Sailing...boat trip

Well, didn't have much sleep last night. The hotel decided in their wisdom, to rent out 5 rooms to CHINESE teenagers! Not a good move. I think they may have a teacher with them? Who knows? Anyway, they arrived back to the hotel at 2:50am shouting, banging on doors and playing musical (not music) rooms. Went outside at around 3am and told them to shut up but obviously, can't sleep then. 4:30am, knocking on doors started. Really cross! Grumbled at reception this morning and again this afternoon when we returned. So, having around 4.5hrs...

Jan 21, 2014 - 20th & 21st January

Well, yesterday we didn't do any more than relax on a couple of sunbeds. We walked right to the other end of the beach and picked up really thin pieces of mother of pearl. Quite obviously, they were shells which have been worn away by the sea water. Unfortunately, although it was cloudy and we went under the umbrella, we got burned...oops! However, we did go for dinner in the Islandish Restaurant and Guy had chicken curry & fried rice and I had half a duck and boiled rice....yum! But, why do they insist on serving rice cold? It's pretty...

Jan 19, 2014 - Langkawi

Arrived yesterday, Saturday. Not very far from the airport; taxi cost 22RM, approx £4.50. Hotel room is very nice, enough room for us, very clean and recently renovated. The shower room is a wet room with floor to ceiling slate, very tasteful. On arrival, we went on an exploration of the near area, found the beach, 2 mins walk, and the Yellow Beach bar where we just happened to arrive during 'happy hour'. Fabulous! Had a couple of beers talked to a couple of people (very young) and then meandered back to our room to change for dinner and...

Feb 3, 2013 - Stargazing in langkawi

The people who i met in this journey simply made me realize how friendly and caring they are.Our holiday was something different than the usual island hopping, sea bathing, boat riding and the rest .Me and my wife thought of exploring langkawi by driving around the whole island and getting to know the places that everyday traveler might miss and so we did.We rented a car for three days and when we reached the jetty the car was already there and there was no hassle in running around trying to argue and look for cheap rentals or hires.From...

Holiday in Langkawi

Jan 4, 2013 - Malaysia - 4/1-11/1

& then there were two.... 10/1/13 - Langkawi - Not sure this was on my list of places to come as previously done the best parts of Malaysia but here I am. After the madness of the festive season all I've wanted to do is just shut down & recharge, so here I am in Langkowi for some r & r in a bungalow on the back of a beautiful beach, it's perfect. (Did have a little moan last night though that there wasn't enough life here!) Moving on to Penang in the next couple of days to stay with a friend of a friend & then on to The Philippines at the...

Jun 27, 2012 - Lazing in Langkawi

Well we spent 2 days in our apartment, barely venturing outdoors. It may sound like a waste but we really did just need to get Vietnam out of our systems. We managed to get a late swim in every day, in the resort pool, which is massive and empty most of the time. The footy was good to see even though England lost as usual. We walked around the town, Kuah and went in and out of many ‘supermarkets’ which were just like corner shops, but smelly ones with food so old it wanted to crawl out of the shop. We managed to scrape together some okay...
