May 26, 2006 - Wild, wildlife: Edessa via Florina to Prespa Lakes

We left Edessa in the early morning heading through some gorgeous scenery - lush green countryside, trains crossing railway tracks over high bridges over gorges, small white churches perched on mountains - and stopped at a pretty lake a few kilometres out of town to watch the amazing birdlife. Gradually climbing, we eventually arrived at Florina, a town at an elevation of 660 metres. From Florina onwards the drive was deliciously memorable: the air was at its freshest and most fragrant and the hills were dotted with colourful wildflowers....
