@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND For some general information, here are some exerts from the Lonely Planet – Hungary & Leitchtenstein chapter on Leitchtenstein: Liechtenstein wows with its stunning natural beauty. Measuring just 25km by 6km, it’s barely larger than Manhattan, doesn’t have an international airport and is reached by public bus from Switzerland and Austria. Vaduz is the kind of capital city where the butcher knows the baker. With its tidy, quiet streets, lively patio cafes and big Gothic- looking castle on a hill, it feels more like a...

Final visit before heading back to Garmisch was the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein. It is only 62 square miles (160 square KM), 15.3 miles long and 7.7 miles wide. It has a constitutional hereditary monacrchy on a democratic and parlimentary basis. The head of state is Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein. It is a beautiful place with a blend of modern and historical buildings.

Aug 9, 2009 - Ground level starts to rise. It’s the Alps!
Well what a nights sleep! The Aire du Service just outside Epinal was our resting place, we had the whole Aire to ourselves so once the thunder and lightning eased the rain began. We got our heads down and were soon sound asleep! I can’t even remember getting into bed! The sound of the rain hammering on the roof lulled us to the land of nod! We were off just after 8.30am, The journey between France and Switzerland had some nice alpine roads and plenty of switchbacks. Being Sunday there were plenty of bikers out enjoying their bikes....

Aug 2, 2009 - Einsiedein, Switzerland & Liechtenstein
Clouds and rain today. (only second day of rain in 33 days!) We were planning to go hiking up in the Alps, but the weather talked us out of the idea. Instead, the Muff's took us to Einsiedeln (I cannot even pronounce this place, let alone spell it), south of Zurich. We happened across a large Swiss ski jumping tower at Einsiedeln where, interestingly, the Japanese Olympic ski team was practicing for Vancouver next February! Sometimes you just never can tell what you are going to find? The facility has dry-land training capability which...

Jun 21, 2009 - Little Liechtenstein
A very small update for a very small country! After Austria (which we will update you on later because we still have some time there on our way back to Germany) we went to Liechstenstein. We didnt do much here, but saw a castle on the top of the mountain and wandered the streets for a short time. Cute, but not a lot to do. So onto Switzerland we went. Cheerio, Mel and Aaron

May 10, 2009 - Lithuania
Today we went for a bus trip into the country area of Switzerland. We headed east from Zurich into beautiful mountain areas. At one stage we could see the mountains in Austria and also in Germany. We also dropped into Vaduz, capital of Liechtenstein. Vaduz has a population of just over 5000. Tiny Liechtenstein, not quite as large as Washington, DC, lies on the east bank of the Rhine River between Austria and Switzerland. It consists of low valley land and Alpine peaks. Blacklisted in 2000 as a center for money laundering, Liechtenstein...

Jun 21, 2008 - Little Lichtenstein
We drove on to little Lichtenstein. It was getting late and all we wanted to do was find a place to stay. I couldn't believe it, we knocked on doors and enquired at receptions and all of the places we tried were either closed or full. We could not find one place in this whole country that had availability. Finally after a lot of searching we found a place in Vaduz, Lichtenstein. Phew, after about two hours of searching we found a place to sleep. Lichtenstein is a little country nestled between Switzerland and Austria. It is situated in a...

A two night break in Liechtenstein. Thankyou again to Lisa and Rene for your warm and wonderful hospitality. Lisa we think you speken ze zuper deutch, you are an inspiration. Our kids again had fun playing with Oli and Sophie. All the kids raided Lisa and Rene’s dress-up box and got dressed up (why adults need to keep such costumes in their bedroom I’m not sure). The adults were then treated to seven performances of a show. ie. We had to put down our drinks and go down stairs to watch 6 kids jump up and down on our bed. While in...

Apr 27, 2008 - Doin' Time in Liechtenstein
Spendin’ Time in Liechtenstein Sue and I love summer days when we sit on our back deck overlooking the rolling hills of Bridgetown, cooking up BBQ lamb and eating salads dressed with olive oil and Balsamic vinegar. Well at least we did until we visited Princess Leeza of Liechtenstein. We sat in the warm springtime sunshine on Lisa’s back deck overlooking the snow capped mountains of Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Austria, while she fed us on baked chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto accompanied by a garden fresh salad topped with shaved...
