Jun 5, 2004 - Rezekne

We left Vilnius and crossed the border back into Lithuania, stopping briefly in the old Soviet era town of Daugavpils for lunch. There was once hopes of building a free trade zone on the grounds of the former Soviet military base, but nothing has come of it. Today, it stands as a grim reminder of the collapse of the Soviet Union. After lunch, we drove into Rezekne, in Latvia's Latgale lakes district for a brief overnight stop.
