30 December - To Vietnam - Nam Xoi (aka Nam Can) Got a songthaew which left for Na Meo (the border with Vietnam) at 7am. Also travelling was Claudio, a Frenchman, who writes science fiction and fantasy short stories and has had a book of short stories published (under his name Claude Mamier) which always impresses me. He has a website: www.1000jours1001nuits.net which is only in French.He is reasonably attractive but has a terrible speech impediment so that when he tries to enounce certain words his face becomess contorted in quite an ugly...

Jun 27, 2005 - Phonsavan

Got up early doors to makemy 730am bus to the east of the country to a place called Phonesavan, it was going to take 7 hours to do abut 200ks tops as this road although tarmaced, was through the mountains the whole way. I pitched up at the stop and saw John & Ginie and Karen and the Kiwi with the thai bird from the slow boat were there, so the journey wasnt going to be a lonesome one that I first expected. Mar 29, 2005 - Phonsovan

The following morning the bags were reloaded, the bike refueled and we were re-energised for the 206km journey north east to Phonsovan. Having become accustomed to entire days without seeing other foreigners in Cambodia, we enjoyed being on road seeing nothing but nature and passing villages along the way. At regular intervals along the route are villages of various sizes and wealth. Some homes are made from concrete, other communities have houses made from wooden planks or woven split bamboo.
