May 25, 2012 - Laos - Day 24 - The Bolaven Plateau, Day 3 of an Amazing Motorbike Trip

Woke up to a beautiful morning, it had an appearance to it that it may rain but the skies were just tricking us and it did not. We've all been wanting it to rain, just a little so we could put on our 'Radical Rainbow Riders' rain ponchos. The day turned out to be too warm for that. We gassed up the bikes and headed on back from Sekong towards Thateng where we made our way down to Pakxong. We found some more pineapple stalls and quickly pulled over to buy one for the group. We hadn't had any breakfast, nothing to be found in Sekong and we...

May 22, 2012 - Laos - Day21- Massage & Relax Day in Pakse

Holy Crap!!!! We finally made it to Pakse, after a long afternoon and evening of trying to catch a bus here. It was a very long night on a bus that had hard, broken seats, we originally took the very back row of seats between Jason, Angie, Becky and myself. Sue and Chris had the two seats in front of us. The back row unfortunately did not recline so you sat up in “attention” all night and every time the bus would hit a bump, stop or make a sudden move to slow down you pretty much came right out of your seat. Jason’s cushion came right off...

Apr 27, 2012 - Pakse: Page 5 - From Hoi An to Here

Hellloooooooo! Sorry everyone for the horribly long time between entries. A combination of less available internet and generally being busy have stopped me being able to spend too long at a computer. However, we are now stuck in Pakse, a rather uninteresting town, for a couple of days while our Laos visas are extended, so I finally have a chance to tell you about it all! Our last evening in Hoi An was lovely - we found a really local restaurant with only 4 items on the menu, so tried all of them! One was a sweetcorn soup served with ice,...

Feb 17, 2012 - taas mennään

nyt on saatu tarpeeksi löhöilystä ja eilen tultiin takas pakseen, josta ois tarkoitus parin päivän sisään lähteä etenemään kohti vietnamia. don detistä jäi hyvät muistot, vaikka mun aurinkolasit vietiin. niissä oli linsseissä vahvuudet, joten toivottavasti sillä rosvolla on pää ihan perkeleen kipeä kun käyttää niitä :) näillä näkymin ollaan vaan kaks viikkoa vietnamissa, ei tarvii erillistä viisumia hankkia, joten ei tarvi lähteä tekemään mutkaa pohjoisen rajaylityspaikan kautta. tehdään pariin paikkaan täsmäiskut, ja sitten lennetään...

Feb 4, 2012 - pakse

riippumattoon pääsy lähenee koko ajan, taas ollaan lähempänä don detin saarta, jossa ois tarkoitus olla tekemättä mitään niin pitkään kuin vain suinkin malttaa. savannekhetissa vierähtikin kolme päivää, latailtiin vähän paristoja ennen viimeistä pitkää bussimatkaa. eilen käytiin 15km pyöräretkellä järvellä, siellä oli kivoja pikku majoja, joissa sai nautiskella olutta ja pelattiin jatsia. illalla käytiin tunnin jalkahieronnassa ja voi sanoa, että tuntui hyvältä, hintaa 3,5€. muutama kerjäläinen pyöri keskustassa, mutta muuten elintaso...

Jan 23, 2012 - Pakse

So our plans have slightly changed for the next month so we are going to south to Cambodia first instead of going to Vietnam as a) we haven’t got our visas for Vietnam which will take 2 days and we will need to travel further south to get them and b) Its Chinese new year so everyone in Vietnam will be off for about 1 week and therefore we won’t be able to travel into/around Vietnam for a while and c) its more logical for us to do Cambodia first so we wouldn’t be backtracking on ourselves. So we headed further south to Pakse for a short...

Jun 7, 2011 - Pakse

Away to Pakse!!! We got another bus for 3 hours there, a nice short trip for a change. Everyone who got off the bus in Pakse were all doing the same loop of town checking for a hotel room, quite funny seeing most people struggle around with massive backpacks. It makes us feel a bit smug at having our tiny and light backpacks! We ended up in a nice place by the river for only 50'000kip a night, about 3 pounds. (Hmmm, keyboards in Vietnam , where i am now, dont seem to have the pound sign!) It was evening by the time we were sorted and we...

Apr 26, 2010 - Fourthousand Islands

i was already feeling a bit weird on the 3h busride and the boattrip to don det...and definitely not good enough to stay in one of these oven-bungalows made out of wood and bamboo with no electricity or bathroom. nearly collapsing on my way to find a proper bungalow...there was only one place on this island with bungalows that actually had aircondition...and thank god not that more expensive!!! spend the first 2 days of don det between toilet and bed throwing up pineapple :-( ( won't be eating that for a while!) after finding back to almost...

with a very comfy vip sleeperbus i arrived in pakse this morning and was going to spend some time ringing people over skype...but again shit quality wherever you go :-( as there is not much to do in pakse itself, i took a daytrip to the bolaven plateau...which is an area outside of pakse with lots of coffee and tea plantations, ethnic villages and waterfalls in the forests. met a nice chinese couple on the trip, but unfortunately they are heading to cambodia...same for the irish girl i met on the sleeperbus :-( u actually do meet a lot of...

Mar 10, 2010 - Bolaven Plateau
