Apr 19, 2012 - Kuwait City, Kuwait
4-19 Wiki Info Kuwait City Wiki Info Liberation Tower Wiki Info Kuwait Towers Arrived in Kuwait at 3:15am...visa easy, no $$$ but then they've gotcha! We stayed in the airport at Caribou Coffee under a photo on the wall of Montana grizzlies! A blueberry muffin and large tea = $2 Kuwait dinar ($6.80 US). On second Egypt air flight we got another veggie dinner just as good as the first flight. I could get used to this, but then I'd be broke within a year, ha! Took bus (wild drivers) to downtown & Oasis Hotel where we 'negotiated' room with...Jump to full entry
Jun 19, 2011 - Our last day in Kuwait
We all woke up feeling so much better!! We headed off to Paula and Toby's health club, Resort would actually be a better description!! It looks like a very contemparary beach front resort. The view from the treadmill was of the downtown skyline and the water. I searched through the tv channels hoping to find sports center (I didn't have headphones). No luck there, but they did have about 5 channels with soccer! Came across one channel with a flamboyantly dressed arab women. The sign in the background explained that she was "Dr. Foz"!! I...Jump to full entry
Jun 18, 2011 - A day at the beach
Well, after our late night, we didn't quite make our 10 am goal. But we were packed and on the road by 11. The beach villa is also on the Arabian Gulf (it is not PC to call it the Persian Gulf). There are lots of toys: wind surfers, jet skis, hobie cats, etc. We were pretty much in the go in the water, then sit and read mode. If you think the sand is hot in the summer in Pensacola or Sarasota, think about walking on sand baking in the 120 degree sun!! I figured out it was wise to wear your shoes almost to the water line! Jimmy was there....Jump to full entry
Jun 17, 2011 - What a Party!!!
Its now Tuesday. We have had access to Internet, but have been very busy and having an incredible time! On Friday we went to watch Jimmy play soccer. They have a field (with AstroTurf) reserved every Friday night. Sometimes they play against other teams and, like this time, they scrimmaged each other. It was probably about 110 degrees at 6 pm when they started. One of Jimmy's friends brought his little girl, Sumini, along and she entertained us royally! (Stephanie...see the pictures! And no I couldn't kidnap her for you!) It was interesting...Jump to full entry
Jun 15, 2011 - Now we are in Kuwait!!
We arrived at 6:30 am and were met by a cute young lady (as promised to Jim by Toby). She escorted us through customs, etc. Had a great day catching up with Paula and Toby. Then we both had showers, fabulous massages and a nap!! Soon after we got up, Jimmy arrived (he had just finished work). We had a couple drinks, courtesy of Toby's stash, then a great dinner. Of course, we had to retell all our old stories!! Jim and Toby were roommates at Indiana University. We had also visited Toby and Paula in Portugal. Afterward Jimmy noticed a post...Jump to full entry
Apr 12, 2008 - Saturday, April 12; trip to Kuwait
On Friday we checked out of the hotel. Jimmy had a meeting downtown (see pictures). Jim and I explored the area. A little after midnight we took a cab to the airport. We were leaving from the recently opened Terminal 3, which was pretty impressive. After checking in we went to the only open restaurant and had tea and french toast. It was pretty tough saying goodbye to Jimmy after having such a great visit with him. The computer and phone are great, but not the same as in person!! We had a nice flight on Qatar Air. On the individual TV...Jump to full entry
Jan 30, 2008 - Il Viaggio
Sep 12, 2007 - Almost there!
We landed in Kuwait right before midnight (local time) on the 11th. Most of us, since we had started our little flying trip here on the 10th, almost missed the fact that we were just about through with the day that changed so many lives in America only 6 short years ago. From unpacking the plane, to the hour plus bus route to get to Camp Virginia, and then a welcome aboard brief (with all the things you can and can't do! grin!) we finished up around 0400 in the morning. Most of us tried to stay up and walk around the Camp so we could get...Jump to full entry
