We’ve been on the Lamu Archipelago since the first. It definitely has its island paradise characteristics , which are combined with donkeys (and therefore donkey poop) everywhere, calls to prayer at 4:45am (It’s a predominantly Muslim population), and mosquitoes. The morning after my first night, I killed seven mosquitoes *inside* my mosquito net (my room happened to be particularly infested). I’d be shocked if I don’t have Malaria, but I’m on malarone, so I’ve been told that worst case I’ll be miserable for two days 10-15 days from...

Oct 15, 2008 - Lamu Island

Hello All. Spent 7 nights here on Lamu Island. Really a peaceful and beautiful place. Beach here was top 2 or 3 best beaches either one of us has ever been on. 12km of pure sand overlooking the sea with maybe 1 or 2 people scattered here and there. Met some interesting people on Lamu. It's an island on which basically everyone knows you after two days. Very small so I think the gene pool might need a little mixing up.
