May 31, 2008 - Desert Castles

Today we travelled east into the desert to vist the Desert castles. The first was Qasr al Kharaneh built in the 8th century, and appears to have been an inn of some sort. It is in the middle of the desert and I am sure was a welcome site from the travellers in those times. We then headed to Queseir Amra. This again in the middle of nowhere. It contained baths and fresco painted rooms. Onwards then to Qasr al Azrao. This brought us to within about 220kms of the Iraqi border. Close enough for us.
