We left Kyoto on the superfast bullet train and headed south to Okayama. As I soon discovered it was very hard to pronounce the town correctly without people thinking that we were going to the tropical island of Okinawa. This especially puzzled people at the train station as naturally the bullet train goes to many places, but not to a small island about 1000km offshore! Anyway we arrived into Okayama and found our hotel, dumped our bags and then headed off to the nearby town of Himeji where there was meant to be a nice castle. Off the train...

Nov 17, 2005 - 6 degrees and wearing everything!

We left Bob on Friday in the prefecture of enlightenment, on day 33 of 66 at Bangai Temple 7, sounding over the moon - or at least on top of the mountain at 817m and freezing at 6 degrees C. He was staying over for a second night to attend a monk's wedding (I have 1000 questions that I didn't get to ask...) at roughly 11am and would then start walking to Bangai Temple 8.

Nov 16, 2005 - Bangai 6

Wednesay 16th November: All's well with pilgrim Bob. With my course work keeping me up late I caught him early morning for a change... He was at Bangai Number 6, having spent his second night there. On Monday none of the WC-highlighted stops worked and Bob ended walking about 40km arriving at Bangai 6 at about 6pm. He pitched tent on the verandah outside the hondo for the night, and apparently had trouble with his tooth again in the evening.
