Sep 19, 2012 - Kobe japan

Well we left Masan at 10pm and sailed out into a monsoon, very high winds and a very lumpy seas it was very rough night but i managed to make it for breakfast and we went straight into the wharf. Kobe as many of you will remember was hit by a 7.2 earthquake as well in 1996 in which 66,500 people died. This earthquake was very deep and didn't strike the centre of the city, the harbour and the older housing area that survived 2nd world war and some of the overhead bridges corlasted. May 24, 2012 - Here's the Beef

This morning I took the subway over to Osaka Station. Akie was there seeing off the 300th guest of her tour company, All Star Osaka. We all posed for pictures, then Akie and I boarded a train for Kobe. It was an important trading port during the Meiji era and still shows the European influence. We visited some of the "western style" houses on the Kitano Hillside then walked towards the waterside. I had requested Kobe beef for lunch. Akie managed to find a teppanyaki place which was very good and quite reasonable. After lunch we took a train...

Going from Himeji to Kobe took around one hour and we got to Kobe at around four in the afternoon. I don’t really know what we were going to expect from Kobe. The only thing that I knew about it was the earthquake during the mid 1990s and Kobe beef. The city seems to have been successfully rebuilt and it looked very nice and new. However, as we walked around in the town, it really seemed to lack atmosphere and identity. I’m quite happy to say that Kobe was a dump and it wasn’t worth our time visiting it. We simply managed to see loads of...

Apr 11, 2008 - Japan1

We arrived in Kobe, Japan the morning of April 11, 2008 and prepared for a tedious customs process. First they had to take our temperature due to the spread of the Avian flu. Everybody just walked through this room in a straight line and they had some high-tech device that was able to take our body temperature without having to be seen individually. Welcome to Japan with its high-tech electronic capabilities. After that, we had to go through customs where we had to individually go up to a counter and they checked our passports and had to...
