Oct 12, 2009 - If you go ...... some suggestions

Group booking = Group dinner reservations: Our A la Carte reservations had been made for us ahead of time; this is part of the Gold Club Service. Sounds like a great idea, but it didn't work well for us - all of our reservations were made under one person's name so we all had to eat at the same restaurant at the same time! On top of this, it was put under the Bride and Groom's name - they were far too preoccupied with the wedding to remember to tell 14 other people when and where dinner was each night so many times some of the party would...

Oct 10, 2009 - Good bye Jamaica

Our flight doesn't leave until 5:30 pm Jamaica time so we have most of the day to enjoy ourselves. Check-out is still noon but the hotel provides a secure room for you to put your luggage if you like, at no charge. **NOTE- User BEWARE: We used this service but we were not told to go and get it at least 30 mins prior to departure so we were rushing last minute to find someone who could unlock the door for us, nor did they tag our luggage, so it was up to us to be honest in what we took out of this room! Our hotel package was under the Royal...

Oct 9, 2009 - Home tomorrow ...

Our last day here! The "kids" (ten 20+ year olds) booked a hotel shuttle bus to go into Ocho Rios today. It costs $15 pp but it is worthwile to use. They planned to go shopping at the market and try their bartering skills to buy some souveniers. The trip was to be a 4 hr excursion but ended up 6 hrs as they were treated to a wonderful trip up into the mountain side by their driver. They were taken to a "locals" mountain lookout and tropical garden then on to a local jerk stand where it is said the jerk chicken was out of this world! They...

Oct 8, 2009 - Cool Runnings and Dunns Falls

This trip was also booked through the resort and JamaicaTours with a cost of $92.00 USD per person. This is a cruise on a large catamaran, with a stop to snorkel in the bay, then continue on to Dunns River Falls. A guided climb up the falls is followed by celebration with lots of rum punch back onboard the catamaran. This was a much larger group, requiring two buses, both to full capacity. It was a relatively short trip in to Ocho Rios and our bus driver provided entertainment the whole way. We all had a fun day on this tour and it was well...

Oct 7, 2009 - Trip to Negril

Negril is a 3 hr drive from our resrot so the bus was there to pick us up at 7:45 am! Our day excursion was booked through the resort with JamaicaTours Limited and cost $55 USD per person. We had a small group of 6 plus the tour guide and our driver. The bus was small, very new, clean and well air conditioned. The young female tour guide was excellent and very informative. With such a small group of people, we were able to get to know each other quickly and enjoy each others company for the long day ahead. We had a pit stop in Montego Bay,...

Oct 6, 2009 - Wedding Day

Not too much to worry about! The wedding planner has done a wonderful job organizing everything. The bridal party will go and help decorate the gazebo before the girls go for their hair appointments at the resort spa. The gazebo is located out on a point of the beach right at the waters edge. What a beautiful setting for a wedding! A stone walkway from the pool area to the gazebo is most welcome for all of us wearing high heels. What a beautiful ceremony.... recorded music of their choice played as the groom stood watching his bride walk...

Oct 5, 2009 - Sun, sun and more sun

Hot sunny and very humid today. We went snorkelling down at the resort beach and it was great! There was much more to see that we expected. This part of the beach is not good for swimming as it is very rocky but the snorkelling is really good and it is free. We brought our own equipment but you can rent it at no cost from the water sport hut at the beach. There is another very long beach with beautiful sand and shallow water for swimming. We booked our 2 excursions; Day trip to Negril and Cool Runnings Adventure. Dinner was a la carte at...

Oct 4, 2009 - Ahhh ... Rest and relaxation

We woke up to a beautiful hot sunny morning. As part of our reservation in the Royal Golden Club, our Junior Suite looks out over both the pool area as well as a fabulous view of the ocean. We have a meeting with our Transat tour rep at 9:30 am so we have to get going! The buffet breakfast was very good. The resort is quite empty today so we don't have crowds to fight for poolside chairs or getting a drink at the pool bar. The beach is gorgeous and we have it almost to ourselves. Our group is in small groups today, everyone taking time to...

Oct 3, 2009 - Group travel - 16 adults and one baby...

My son and his fiancee decided on a Jamaican wedding so there are 16 adults and my son's 7 month old son flying to Jamaica. We have done a group booking with a CAA travel agent as both myself and my son (the one getting married) are both employees of CAA North & East Ontario. We have booked through Transat Vacations and will be staying at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay. We live in Ottawa but the flight we are taking fly's out of Montreal. We will car pool down and use the Park'n'Fly nearby. We must leave by 7:30 am as the...
