Jan 26, 2012 - Ocho Rios, Jamaica

We arrived to our last port of call, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, about 9 am this morning to bright, sunny skies and very warm temperatures. Jamaica is the 3rd largest island in the Caribbean, situated in the Caribbean Sea with Ocho Rios located on the picturesque North Coast. Again, the area has a tropical climate with warm temperatues throughout the year. The points of interest in this area include Jamaica's world-famous Dunn's River Falls that cascades 600 feet down a giant rock staircase to the Caribbean Sea. There are also opportunities to go...

Jan 10, 2011 - Jamaica - "No Problems"

Hi - Here are a few photos from a brief trip to Jamaica where I helped out with a program to feed the homeless. I enjoyed meeting the people here. All around are extremely expensive resorts. This is another place that reminds me that I do not want to live as a rich person in a poor land. Try it. The Geezer

Dec 16, 2009 - Cruizin Day 4

Day 4 - Ocho Rios, Jamaica Man - Today in Jamaica it was AMAZING! It was raining for a little while but I didn't care, the rain was warm and I was having fun. First we got to go to Dolphin Cove, and it was awesome. Our dolphin was named Misty, and she was really cute. I had so much fun with her; we got to touch her, dance with her, sing with her, and played in the water. Best of all, she took me for a little ride and gave me a kiss on the cheek (I got to kiss her back). Misty feels like rubber. After dolphin cove, we went to Dunn Falls and...

Feb 23, 2009 - Day 5 (Ocho Rios, Jamaica)

We arrived in Ocho Rios at about 7. The weather was a mix of sun and cloud, and rain shortly after we arrived. We left the ship with Chris and Sue and promptly went to the bar overlooking the water by Margaritaville. Red Stripe beer is quite nice and the Sun had come out and was very strong. With the exception of the aggressiveness of the locals trying to make a buck it was quite enjoyable to be in the Carribbean. We went on a Taxi tour up into the hills and seen the rain forest and how many of the people lived. A tough life up in those...

Oct 14, 2008 - Ocho Rios, Jamaica

First stop Jamaica!! Our first experience of Jamaica was a little interesting/bad. We just hopped off the boat and wondered by ourselves into town and got hassled by just about every single person in the whole town - 'you wanna taxi mon', 'come into my store mon', 'you want some weed mon' - it was unbearable! The town was scummy and the people were pushy a-holes! And Bob Marley merchandise was expensive!! We re-grouped though went back to the boat for lunch then caught a taxi out to some famous waterfalls. And we're super glad we did...

Sep 18, 2008 - Jamaica - Ocho Rios

Thursday 18th September Today our ship docked in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Yet again, we were blown away by the water as we entered the bay. The water is so blue and clear, it was beautiful. We were met at the dock by over enthusiastic Jamaicans eager for our business and beckoning us to their shops. Reminiscent of India really! It can be quite overwhelming, but we are seasoned travellers now (??!!) and we just had to think back to a couple of months ago when it was part of our every day life, and it wasn’t too hard to slip back into our very...

Jan 30, 2008 - Cruise 2 Day 4 Ocho Rios

Jamaica is another pretty place with lots of problems. When we docked here today our balcony was facing out of the harbor so we could not see a lot of the island. Carnival Victory was already tied up when we came in. She was at the James Bond pier where we docked in Sun Princess when our Omaha group did our Panama Canal Cruise. We also tied up at the James Bond pier on our very first cruise on Sky Princess. This time we tied up at the new dock that has some nice shopping facilities inside the fence within walking distance and without all...

Nov 15, 2007 - Jamaica

We departed Mobile Alabama early in the morning and had a changeover in Memphis. The flight from Memphis to Jamaica was a little long but pleasant. We flew over Cuba and could see it through the clouds. We took this trip with some travel buddies so the long rides weren't too bad. It's nice to have friends along. The resort had transportation waiting for us at the airport. The ride from the airport to the resort was our first taste Jamaican driving techniques. WOW! They drive on the wrong side of the road, too fast, and too close to...
