Oct 25, 2005 - Verona

Today, I made a two-hour train trip to the city of Verona in the Veneto. The weather was cloudy and cool, but the city is quite beautiful. It lies along the Adige River with the foothills of the Dolomites to the north and the large Po (River) plain. With the train ride and schedules, there was only 7 hours in the city. I visited the Dumo (main church of any Italian city) and another church called San Zeno. The castelvecchio (old castle) was quite impressive from the outside with several drawbridges and a bridge that I have in a photo. A...

Oct 5, 2005 - Venice, smenish.....nope again....lol

I could never believe how much rain can fall in one day, alot. It didnt stop raining in Venice and just to add insult to injury, when I left the interent cafe to find my lovely wife, well things do amaze, as when l got to the area where we said we would meet, it is friggin under water, yep, the entire San Marco square is underwater as the tide came in, bloody hell. They put all these planks about 2 feet off the ground and people just walk on them, imagine my surprise and feeling when l saw that, oh yeah, Venice, gotta luv it. You have got...

Sep 26, 2005 - Contiki - Austria to Venice but via Verona

Day 7 - Hopfgarten to Verona then to Venice Wouldn't you know it, another day on the bus, another day of sore heads being rested! We had restored Jesus above the bed before we left the hotel, and headed off for the adventurous lot to do some white water rafting. The rest of us took it quietly in the sun. Then we drove down in to Italy to Verona, leaving what we thought was the best scenery of the trip behind. Had a breif hour in Verona where we saw the blacony of Juliet where Michelle and Aaron did a breif performance, and we dashed...

Sep 9, 2005 - Verona (a bit more like it)

We really ended up liking Verona and a bit more like what we'd imagined Italy to be like. Tiny colorful streets with little ally ways. Massive anceint roman ampitheatre. Little religious legends scattering the streets. We really enjoyed ourselves and even had a bit of culture. Every night during the summer the ampitheatre as an opera. I was dying to see Aida which was playing in a couple of nights but we didn't have the days to spare on our train ticket (since it ended the 7th and we wanted to get ourselves to Rome before it ended) so we...

All well otherwise though. AMx Me again on 25 June. Cant be bothered setting up a new entry. Verona's charms are growing on me despite the 34 degree temps yesterday. Visited Juliet's balcony yesterday among the hoards of others. Can't quite get why it is romantic to scribble your initials on some used chewing gum slapped onto a graffiti'd wall???...

May 13, 2005 - Verona - Lake Garda - Illasi

Today Krantz had the day off work and drove us to Verona. We parked at his mother's apartment which looked small from outside but inside was like a very big old house almost museum like. We walked into beautiful Verona and went to the Archeology museum which was inside the Roman Theatre. The walked through the streets to have luch in Piazza delle Erbe. We saw both Romeo and Juliet's houses and walked past the Arena. After this we went to San Virgilio at Lake Garda and had gelato by the lake as we were to pick up Silvia from her School...

Mar 14, 2005 - Verona

After leaving Switzerland around midday we crossed the Italian border soon after. The border checks did not seem all that stringent but the polizia inspected the purse of a lady and soon dragged her off the train. It's times like this you wish you could understand Italian. The train had a long stop in Milan before we travelled to Verona. At first glance, Verona isn't eye-catching. We eventually found our bed and breakfast, which turned out to be very nice. It is also right on top of a gelateria - yum!!! Last night ate at a local restaurant...

Jan 14, 2005 - One 'Gentleman' in Verona

I've seen many charming, medieval Italian towns. Nearly every time I see a new one, I think, 'This may be the most beautiful place I've ever seen.' I continue to think that, until I see the next one. Even knowing this, when I saw Verona's old city center, I still thought, 'This may be the most beautiful place I've ever seen.' Most of my traveling companions have left Venice, and I wanted to visit more of the surrounding countryside. So I tried a little experiment. I chose three side trips listed in the guidebook, went to the station, and...

Aug 12, 2004 - Bella Italia

Hi Everyone After a few days in Lake Bled it was time to move on or Sacha will be in Rome by himself. I spent the morning sitting around the lake watching people swimming and rowing (my togs were at the train station at the top of the hill otherwise I would have been in there too) then it was off to Nova Gorica (Goritza) on the Slovenia/Italy border. A short taxi ride and a wave of my passport later and I was in Gorizia, Italy to catch the train to Verona. I decided to skip Venice until Sacha is here, but speaking to some people at the...
