Feb 5, 2008 - Verona 2
We walked on home in a light rain but were sopping wet by the time we got to our room. We hung our clothes up to dry, took hot showers and had a good nights rest. European hotels normally serve a free breakfast - some more elaborate than others. This time we had cereal, yogurt, rolls, good hot coffee and much more to chose from. After reserving our room for another night we headed back into the old city. Our first stop was at the Castle Vecchio, built on the River Adige in 1354. At that time it was at the end of the old wall that was built...

Feb 4, 2008 - Verona
It was Fasching (Carnival) time here in Germany with school out for the week and friends from Bamberg (5 children) coming to visit and ski so it was time for us to take off for the week for a trip to - some place. We decided to go south to get away from the snow. We wanted to revisit Venice (We thought our last 2 hour visit on a rainy night was not enough.) and to visit Lake Garda, which is tucked into a deep valley on the south side of the Alps. We chose Verona, Italy, as our first stop, which is about halfway between the two. From there...

Dec 18, 2007 - Romeo and Juliets Verona
Verona is cute city, but unfortunatly was a bit of a let down after Venice...but I guess anywhere would of been... We stayed in a very nice B&B, so clean, and got to eat Cornflakes and toast! Nowhere in Italy does toast, or have a toaster. Instead they sell pretoasted bread, its kinda funny! The city of Verona is centered around the Arena, which is like the Colosseum, except still preserved, and smaller. We also visited Juliets balcony. You just walk down the street and then all of a sudden, behind all the graffit, there is is! We went to...

Losing track of dates and days, but I think this is the day we went to Verona and saw the balcony of Romeo and Juliette. We also saw the statue of Juliette where it is custom to grab her right boob. So yes we have a photo of Vic cupping her boob. If it brings us luck then bring it on!!! Happy Birthday Steve!!! Hope you had a wonderful day! Thinking of you lots :)

Sep 20, 2007 - Verona - Venice
Next stop the beautiful town of Verona and Juliets balcony. Delicious lunch in the Piazza - addicted big time to Caprese (Mozzarello, lettuce and tomatoes) in any form - also hazelnut gelato. Arrived Venice late afternoon - gondola ride as we sang SCUSI Waltzing Matilda. We had like our own little villa attached to the hotel by the Grand Canal - fun with moving a cabinet (will confess to some), dinner in hotel and a private boat ride the full length of the canal to St Marco Square for champagne at a cafe under the stars listeneing to a...

Aug 24, 2007 - Verona, and time for home
Having eventually woken up in a very unhappy state, very shaky and definitely in no mood to drive to Verona; Deb was sent down to the reception to advise that we would not be checking out that morning and instead would leave later on that afternoon. Considering the previous evening's shenanigans it seems this news was taken with minimum of complaint, though I expect this was due to the handing over of money rather than the generosity of the hotel management!! Poor old Dan tried to get up twice to begin the process of leaving for Verona; on...

Aug 11, 2007 - Venizia to Verona
Today we made our way to Verona, the location of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (which was written by Luigi da Porto of Vicenza in the 1520's) and we were excited since we were going to meet up with Whitney Ann, the daughter of our good friends Peter and Madeline Moolyk and Stephanie Burger, an exchange student from Switzerland whom we met when she lived with the Moolyk's about six years ago. The two girls are traveling together for a week or so around northern Europe and we arranged to meet in Verona. After the girls arrived, we walked...

YAY VERONA! Jaycee was so excited to go to Verona...who doesn't love Romeo and Juliet? So we got to Verona at about 4:00pm and headed straight to our hotel via the local bus. We were so excited for a hotel because of the lack of sleep. We were exhausted! We showered and cleaned up before heading out on the town. We took the bus to the main square and started to walk around. Apparently because of the value and importance of its many historical buildings, Verona itself has been named a UNESCO world heritage site. There were quite a few...

May 29, 2006 - Where for art thou Verona
Today we are on the road through the alps to Verona in Italy. Perry is hard out trying to convince us to buy his shit-box suburau for 1500 euros. We have already bought our Euro Rail tickets so his efforts are all in vein. We leave Munich in the rain and cold, but by time we have driven through the beautiful Brenner pass with its lovely vistas and fantastic castles, the clouds have disapated and the temperature has risen 5 degrees. Birgit's sister Angelica with the four of us making it five. Three adults in the back of a car can be pretty...

May 15, 2006 - Mantova.
I've made it to Mantova. What should have been an easy day turned difficult because I've been cycling in to a head wind all day. Plus I got sprayed with chemicals by a farmer. Nice ! I've taken quieter roads today and the scenery has been wonderful. A very pleasant ride. Mantova, much like Cremona is beautiful and well worth a visit.

Apr 16, 2006 - day 3!!!
Ok kiddies- SO today we decided to explore more of the veneto so we took a train to Verona! After all that we did there we were both wiped out!! We were on our feet for 14 hours! So first we started of in Pallazo Maffei, and it was an odd shape then we walked south a bit to the Piazza Delle Erbe, then we went to Torre Dei Lamberti(this cool brick church with a really tall bell tower), then we hoofed it to the river, crossed the Ponte Pietra Bridge, walked down this very local shop/residental area, then we climbed these never ending stares...

Nov 3, 2005 - Vernoa, Italy
Quick stop, just one night...we had trouble again, with not having our passports available at one hotel...found another hotel that wasn't so anal about paperwork but by that time we just wanted to rest, have a drink and hit the sack then move on to Florence in the morning. We did walk around their ancient colosseum and past their old town area but we just weren't motivated. Sorry Verona, maybe another time...that is the problem with seeing so much and traveling for so long, it sometimes becomes...seen that, done that...not another...
