Sep 6, 2011 - Trapani & Erice
Tuesday, September 6 - Trapani, Sicily The western point of the Sicilian triangle is a land of wild beauty, where rocky coves and cliffs overlook sandy and all but deserted beaches. Trapani was founded by the Elymians to serve as the port of the nearby city of Erice, which overlooks it from Monte San Giuliana. The city sits on a low-lying promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. It was originally named Drepanon from the Greek word for “sickle”, because of the curving shape of its harbor. Today it is known for it’s production of...

Oct 23, 2010 - Day 23 Trapani, Sicily
Beautiful sunny day. Took a bus tour around the streets for 45 min. No one to tell us what we are seeing. Saw the fishing boat dock and a small veggie sale going on on the street. 7 euros each. Went to a little flea market and bought some canned fish. Sat in a garden and had a drink. Quiet because it is Sunday. Cars drive on the right side of the street. Beautiful bay with various shades of blue. Driving on the right side of the street.

Aug 18, 2010 - Trapani, Sicily
During this cruise we are making two stops on Sicily. Our first was in Trapani a small town on the western coast. I decided to ditch the tour I booked and just walk around with Lisa. She was on a mission for pottery and I was looking for carved coral (a local handicraft). We ended our visit at Cantina Siciliana where we had some amazing local food.

May 6, 2007 - Circle tour to the western tip of Sicily - Trapani & Marsala
May 6 - Sunday - A circle tour west to Trapani, then south to Marsala, and back to Monreale. We saw defensive towers on the coast, old ones, then dropped down to the flat coast south of Trapani, possibly land reclaimed from the sea? There were many vineyards, and a 'wine route' is posted. Just south of Trapani is Marsala, very famous for centuries for its wine. An island protects the coast and forms a lagoon with several smaller islands in it along this coast. The water is very shallow, with no waves, and the kite-surfers and wind-surfers...

May 18, 2005 - Day trip to Capri, then on to Sicily
Yesterday we went to the island of Capri. The ferry ride over was nice and relaxing in the sunshine, though it was hard to see very far because of the haze. Capri was crazy and crowded- full of tourists, with boat men accosting you as soon as you step off the ferry to get you to pay them E100 to take you around the island in their little fishing boats. We would have really liked to do it, and the tide was perfect, but it’s too expensive for just the two of us, and we didn’t have anyone else to go in on it with us to split up the cost. So we...
