On another warm, sunny morning we collected our laundry from Lucia in Zafferana, then set out in the early afternoon for the south of Sicily. Our first stop of the day was at the Roman villa of Casale, a huge villa near Piazza Armenia, built in the late Roman period during the 3rd or 4th century AD. It was the home of a very rich Roman, possibly of an emperor, and was buried by a mudslide only a few centuries after it was built.
