Apr 26, 2015 - Last minute plans to head over to Viareggio on the west coast!
Buongiornio! Unplanned day trip from Florence to Viareggio today! We didn't take a wrong turn, just not feeling the love today for crowds, noise, crazy traffic, museums and cathedral bells ringing every half hour. We've learned all about Michangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and all those other who's who in Renaissance art. The abundance of art treasures in Italy is mind boggling. Hopped on what we thought would be a relaxing hour and a half train ride to the Mediterranean coastal city of "Viareggio" just watching the scenery. I spotted an...

Aug 27, 2012 - Day 3, part 3....riding
Monday, August 27.....why we came to Italy We headed west towards the sea, and stopped along the way in the village of Vinci....with Leonardo being its most famous son. We wandered through a museum dedicated to his works and made our way to a small cafe where we dined on wonderful salads and open-faced sandwiches in a room lined with wine bottles and boxes. The food was fabulous (we have yet to have a meal be less than wonderful!) After lunch, we had our second gelato...it also was fabulous and we hope for many more! We then rode through...

Jun 30, 2012 - Maralunga to Viareggio- 50ks
Saturday 30/6/12 Maralunga to Viareggio- 50ks along the coast We just have to swim after packing up camp, it’s a beautiful swimming spot off the rocks. We don’t look forward to the hill to Sarzana, 8ks but its not as bad as we think. On the way down the hill one side of the road is closed for roadworks and the cars are backed up, we are experts now of weaving through them. Just as Nickie stops at the red light a lycra clad old man on his road bike cuts her off, nearly creating a pile up of us 3. Nickie thinks aloud, “ well you need a stop...

Feb 9, 2011 - Viareggio and Lucca
Well, with Seli on her way home to the UK to get her knee checked out, Brett needed a shotgun driver to do the 19 hour run from Marbella to Viareggio – 3 countries in a day. Even in the A5 it was a long trip, for Keita who was squished into the small space behind the driver and the back seats filled to the gills with luggage it was certainly like a moving coffin. At one stage i was driving through snow that was mesmerising. Petals of snow would fall but even crawling along at 60kms it would drive into you like the run into hyper speed you...

Jun 15, 2008 - Sunday 15 June - Viareggio
Awoke to find our secluded campground was outside someone’s house (in front of their hedge) and the road we thought was a dead end was in fact a through road. Nice and sunny but didn’t last long. Headed off to the west coast to Viareggio. Lots of cyclists even on windy mountain roads and a few joggers. After finding a park (not easy very busy) and visit to tourist bureau set off exploring. Free wine. Came across an exhibition (lots of marquees) which seemed to be about environmental stuff it was Bio something. There were food and wine...

But, back here in the cool of winter, that sunny shore seems a long way away. A bright star from Oz landed on my doorstep not long after my return and after giving her a good nights rest, we hiked our bluey’s on our shoulders and set out for the train station and a weekend in Viareggio. [From Mums diary - 19th Jan. Well, straight after breakfast, we hit the ground running, literally. Off to the Station Brignole for the trip around to Via Reggio. This is a delightful journey along the Cinque Terra, pass Camogli, Sta Margarita Ligure,...
