AW, Grand Circle didn't come through with the thunder storm!! No rain!! Just a little overcast. So a great day! Urbino is a walled city in central Italy. It's known for the turreted, 15th century Ducal Palace (Duke's Palace). Inside the palace, the National Gallery of Art features paintings by Titian and Raphael. Raphael was born in Urbino. Urbino is also a university town. It is a World Heritage Site notable for a remarkable historical legacy of independent Renaissance culture. The town is nestled on high sloping hillside and retains much...

Jul 7, 2015 - Day 23

Buonasera! Not much happened today, I had class as usual and then afterwards I went back to the apartment and had sometime to myself. The one unique thing I did today was a group of us met out professor at the top of Via Raffaello (named after the painter who is from Urbino) and he gave us a tour around the old armory/fort at the top of the hill. From there I was able to get a couple great shots of the city. I hope you enjoy the pictures! Grazie e Buonanotte!

Buon pommeriggio! Today was a normal day, just class, studying, practicing and planning for the trip to Napoli this weekend. I will continue the tradition and upload the food that I ate but dinner is just the regular margherita pizza so I won't upload one again. I also used today to recooparate from this weekend in Rome. I am still loving every minute here in Italy and it is hard to believe that I am on my 4th week here! Grazie e buona giornata!

Jul 3, 2015 - Day 19

Buona mattina! Today was a early start, we had to get up at about 5:30 to make the bus to Rome which left at 6:30. After a 4 hour bus ride we arrived in Rome. It took us 25 minutes for us to get to the hotel and from there we checked in and spent about 70 minutes relaxing and recovering from the heat. From the hotel we took the metro to the Vatican stop and we got off and had lunch at a restaurant about 10 minutes from the walls of the Vatican. From there we went and checked into our reservations that we had made at the Vatican Museums. It...

Jul 1, 2015 - Day 17

Ciao! Today was a normal day of classes. Once we got done with class we spent a couple hours on our own working on homework and ate lunch separately. After lunch we all met with our professor to have our weekly culture class. This week we discussed the first part of the 'Cortegiano' which was a book popular during the prominence of Urbino that describes the perfect courtier. After that the university put on its weekly movie so a group of us went to go see that as well. Once it got time for dinner we decided that we were going to have...

Jun 30, 2015 - Day 16

Buonasera! Today was a normal day, just class and working with everyone else with studying. The one exciting thing that I did today was a group of us went to the other dining hall (Mensa)which is about a 35 minute walk from the city and is out by where most of the students are housed. The interesting part of this was on the way back there was an absolutely amazing view of the city and especially the Ducal Palace. The view reminded me why I am glad we are studying in a small town and not a big city. I hope everyone is doing well! Grazie e...

Buona matina! Today was just a normal day of class. I wandered around the city afterwards and was able to get a couple good pictures of the city and surrounding countryside. The bid event of the day was we had a 'family dinner.' One of the other students made dinner and we all met at the apartment and spent a couple hours hanging out and talking. It was a lot fun and we are all having a blast! Grazie per leggete e buonanote! (Thanks for reading and good night!)

Jun 21, 2015 - Day 7

Buona Domenica! I was able to start the day off with mass which is always great, but I was able to attend the 10 o'clock mass in the Duomo. It is always amazing to attend a mass in another culture and see the similarities. I also had the honor of watching a baptism because there was a child being baptized during the mass. After mass, most of the group got together for a 2 km hike to the church, San Domenico, which serves as the resting place for Federico Duca and his son. The man who put Urbino on the map. Along the way there were a couple...

Jun 20, 2015 - Day 6

I am running out of Italian greetings so I am going to start reusing. Ciao! Today was a relaxing day, I was able to take a few hours and practice clarinet, read, nap and of course eat. The highlight of the day, however, was the concert that we attended this evening. There is a group of students from America (specifically from the SUNY system) who are majoring in vocal performance that preformed excerpts from major operas. The concert was held in the beautiful local theater (pictures are posted) and overall it was a great concert. Our...

Jun 19, 2015 - Day 5

Buon pomerigio! The end of our first week of class today. This will be one of only two weeks that we will go all the way to Friday, the other is the week for the final exam. To celebrate the end of the week we decided to travel to the nearby town of Pesaro, which just so happens to be on the beach. It was about an hour bus ride (6 euro round trip) to the station and then a 30 minute (because we got lost) walk to the beach. It was amazing! The pictures that I have posted do not do it justice. We spent about 3 hours on the beach napping,...
