Jun 3, 2012 - The lakes

Saturday 2 June What fabulous recommendation to stay here! From our room we can look out across lake to see Bellagio and various other villages as well as the snow capped mountains which turned pink as the sun was setting. Dinner last night was in the terrace which is literally perched above the lake and it is so clear hou can see large fish swimming. Fred enjoyed deer carpaccio and we both had potato ravioli filled with a venison ragu. It is very typical northern Italian fare and delicious. This morning we just took it slowly enjoying the...

Jun 1, 2012 - Twists and turns

Friday 1 June Wow what a day. We were woken I the night be a text to say that arrangements have been made for mum to move to a downstairs unit at . It is something we have been wanting her to do for ages but she resisted. Now with the assistance from various services she should be able to maintain her independence.  Our hotel room overlooked an idyllic town square which, when we woke, had been transformed by market stalls with the usual array of fantastic produce. It really does make the concept of eating seasonal food and being...

Sep 21, 2011 - 'Cantina Follie'-Tremezzo

Wednesday 21st September 2011 Weather:-Perfect Our plan had always been to go to see Villa Carlotta today but after a bit more research on the internet and finding out that there is only minimal furniture inside the villa and our old bogie of ‘no photos inside’ is in place, we have decided to give it a miss---at an entry price of Au$27 for the two of us and then ‘no photos’ is more than we are prepared for. If they took a lesson from Villa Balbianello and charged another Au$4 to take photos it would keep a lot more people happy. So in order...

Sep 19, 2011 - Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy

Monday 19th September 2011 Weather:-19 degrees/Windy A beautiful fresh day welcomed us out of our sleep this morning; the distant scenery was a lot less milky because of the rain that has pelted down for the last 24 hours. The weather must be much more predictable around here because the locals told us on Saturday morning (they had festivities in the town this week-end and had cancelled the Sunday Show) “Sunday will be rain and Monday will be sun again”. Yesterday when it was pouring down with rain I felt sure that it had set in for at...

Sep 18, 2011 - A Rainy Day in Tremezzo

Sunday 18th September 2011 Weather:- 20degrees/It’s Raining, its pouring The rain outside is giving us the perfect excuse to spend a quiet day ‘at home’ today---yes I do mean ‘at home’. This little apartment has all the comforts of a home, if you were that way inclined and wanted to move in here for an extended period then you would not need to buy anything else to make it your home, all that is needed is your food, the owners here have thought of everything. I have been able to do two loads of washing which are already ironed and put away...

Sep 17, 2011 - Villa del Balbianello, Lenno,Lake Como

Saturday 17th September 2011 Weather:-Sunshine The reason that we chose to stay in the town of Tremezzo while visiting Lake Como on this trip is because of its central location and the abundance of ferries going in all directions over the lake, what we did not know about was that there is a train available as well—it is even an ‘Express Train’ and it is called the ‘Trombetta Express’ so today we invested in a day ticket and chuffed along the edge of the lake from Tremezzo to Lenno then to Menaggio and back to Tremezzo---You can see on the...

Sep 16, 2011 - Tremezzo, Lake Como, Italy

Friday 16th September 2011 Weather:-Beautiful Sunshine Our departure from Turino for a short time seemed as if we were in the middle ring of a three ring circus: - cars, trucks, bikes, motor bikes and the three wheeled little Ape’s all going in different directions and what made driving more interesting was all the cars just ‘double parked’, sometimes just so that the driver could pop into his favourite coffee bar for his morning fix, I expect. At one stage we were waiting to do a right hand turn at a traffic light with 5 cars in front of...
